Status: offline 		Many of the states being hit by Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm are blue states. How much are these poor people going to be thinking about the election when their lives are torn apart? How will all the people needing aid after the storm be able to get immediate help? I don't see how they can with there being so many of them. Doesn't the president often get blamed? Is President Obama's chance of getting re-elected now slim to none because of this natural disaster being so close to Election Day?

Status: offline 		Well, if willard wins he plans on ending FEMA and turning it over to the states, at least that is what he said in the primary debate with the GOP

Last year, after a major tornado and flood struck the United States, Romney was asked in a debate about federal disaster relief funding. Romney not only suggested shuttering FEMA and sending responsibility for disaster relief “back to the private sector,” but also said it would be “immoral” for the federal government to fund disaster relief efforts without cutting the budget elsewhere. “It makes no sense at all,” Romney concluded.

And I wonder how many people remember when the GOP used disaster funds to hold the people in need as hostages...

With each major natural disaster in 2011, House Republicans dug in their heels over providing disaster relief. They repeatedly demanded the funds be offset by other spending cuts in the budget — even as a deadly tornado tore through Missouri, an earthquake shook Virginia, and when Hurricane Irene struck the east coast last year.

According to the House Appropriation Committee’s summary of the bill, the [GOP's 2011 continuing resolution] funds Operations, Research and Facilities for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association with $454.3 million less than it got in FY2010; this represents a $450.3 million cut from what the president’s never-passed FY2011 budget was requesting. The National Weather Service, of course, is part of NOAA — its funding drops by $126 million. The CR also reduces funding for FEMA management by $24.3 million off of the FY2010 budget, and reduces that appropriation by $783.3 million for FEMA state and local programs.

I doubt it: anybody who'd think that this inclement weather is an act of God to punish a sinful country wouldn't be voting for any Democrat in the first place, would they?

Status: offline 		I honestly think the race is a very close one so, technically, his chance is a "slim" one, anyway.

How anyone could blame the president (who I admit; I feel has been a dismal failure) is beyond me. Even to the point of blaming the president if help seems a bit slow.

I'm in New Brunswick, NJ; not exactly in the path of the eye of the storm but, as I type, we're under a state of emergency and it's somewhat rougher than a drizzle, out there.

Sure, if something catastrophic happens and I get inconvenienced or worse, I'm going to be pissed but at the president? Not even a little bit. The head of FEMA? Maybe but even that is a bit silly. In a situation like this, logistics are shattered all to hell and new obstacles are in place.

My uncle was flooded out of his house, last year, 4 months after his wife died. He had a bad year. None of us were screaming about the president's performance. We did blame the Army Corps of Engineers who were working on a dam up-river from him for about a decade because the dam broke the weekend of the storm. There's many that believe it was the dam that actually caused the damage; not the storm, so much.

No matter what happens, the storm will not affect my vote as we don't really flood here. Power outages may be a problem but my vote will be counted, if there's power to run the polling place/voting machines, etc.

Status: offline 		I also agree that his chances of being reelected are slim to none already and this storm will do little to change voters minds. Also. this storm will effect everyone in its path, not just poor people in blue states.

This morning, Romney canceled his Monday evening Victory Rally at State Fair Park in West Allis and all events scheduled for Romney and running mate Paul Ryan scheduled for Tuesday. The campaign issued this statement:

"Out of sensitivity for the millions of Americans in the path of Hurricane Sandy, we are canceling tonight's events with Governor Romney in Wisconsin and Congressman Ryan in Melbourne and Lakeland, Florida. We are also canceling all events currently scheduled for both Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan on Tuesday. Governor Romney believes this is a time for the nation and its leaders to come together to focus on those Americans who are in harms way. We will provide additional details regarding Governor Romney's and Congressman Ryan's schedule when they are available." -- Gail Gitcho, Romney Communications Director

Earlier this morning, President Obama canceled his Tuesday visit to Green Bay so he can stay in Washington, D.C. to monitor Hurricane Sandy, according to a statement from the White House.

The President was scheduled to speak at the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Obama campaign confirms former President Bill Clinton will campaign for President Obama in Wisconsin this week to fill the void left by the President while he deals with Sandy. No details have been released on a time or location.

We'll have more on what this could mean for the campaign tonight on Action 2 News.

Status: offline 		There are those who will blame a certain candidate no matter what happens. What matters is how they handle the aftermath.

In 1992, there was a typhoon that hit coastal Bangladesh shortly after a half million people had engaged in an anti-American protest because of Gulf War I. Within less than 24 hours, BushI had massive aid headed that way.
In August of that same year, Hurricane Andrew hit the US. 4 days later, Washington acknowleged that something bad had happened in FL.

The fact that a bunch of people could have a "Yankee Go Home" sign in one hand got the other hand filled with aid while American taxpayers were ignored might have been the thing that cost Bush I his reelection.

Status: offline 		Whether 1 million or 1 thousand voters come out in the state, it gets the same weight in the Electoral College. So even if most people from, say, New Jersey, are still flooded out and without power next Tuesday (IMO doubtful) and can't come out to vote, it won't make a bit of difference to the election unless the damage is only to "blue" areas of the state, and so much so that it tips the balance of voters. Doubtful.

Think it is pretty clear now from performance that President Obama exhibited the qualities that we all look for in a Leader. In sheer political terms it has been a grand slam and slammed the door on any attempt by Romney to win the election.
