I tried to put together a sub group and was told there is a huge number of local activities. I went on Fetlife and there are some but I am, by nature, pretty shy. Plus, I am over 40 and a "soccer mom" type so I feel silly and conspicuous! A few doms who "just wanted to be friends" offered to go with me (two claimed to be highly regarded and active members) but upfront wanted to know "what was in it for them". Anyone know friendly older people who are involved in the BDSM community in Baltimore or MD suburbs?

In my experience, middle-aged parents make up a very large portion of the kink community, so you really shouldn't worry about that.

I've never been to anything in the Baltimore scene, but if you want to drive west, there's one munch here in Frederick that I went to and out of maybe 30 people I was the only one under 40. It's listed on Fet as "Frederick/Hagerstown munch" IIRC.

Master and I are in Baltimore, so if you ever want someone to talk to, feel free to contact me on the other side. I don't know how much help I can be though. Master and I only go to the Crucible from time to time in DC. We've both attended some munches with or without each other but have yet to find a group around here that satisfies us. We'll probably try again in the future. I guess for us it just isn't that big a deal though. We have each other and that's enough even though he knows I'm still new to Baltimore and I would like to find others to hang out with but it hasn't been easy since I'm a 40 year old empty nester. Most women in their 40's, even those back in my hometown that I went to school with, have really young kids or teenagers, where mine is already all grown up and moved out. So not really a lot in common with those my age.

But like I said, if there's something you'd like to talk about or whatever, feel free to look me up. I'll try to help you out in any way I can.

I was over 50 when I went to my first munch. My suggestion is to write to the person who "owns" the group. They are used to hearing about newbie jitters. Most will meet you for coffee somewhere so that you can talk. (Sometimes they can make arrangements for another female submissive close to your age to meet with you) That way when you do go to munch you know someone already. I've done it. It works well. At munch you will meet people of all ages. I have seen people from 18 to 80 at munch.

BESS is probably your best bet. Search for BESS on fetlife, search BESS Baltimore BDSM on google and there's a website!

If you're closer to DC, the group is Black Rose.

They are the older groups, in age as well as how long they've been around. Dark Odyssey, Baltimore Beyond, and the TNGs tend to be younger and/or more on the wild side in all aspects.

Also honestly, it is safer to go to a well established group, with at most talking to an organizer (which they are happy to do!) beforehand, then meeting someone to chaperone. Everyone on fetlife is a well respected member of the community, that should tell you how much that term means.

I'm also from your area and happy to share what I know.
