I think they banned those adverts because they thought kids would like the bear, didn't they?
(Didn't work on me: as I kid in the '80s, I thought George the Bear was a twat. When I told my mum as much in '85 she banned me Guinness for a week...)

In Detroit, home of one party rule for 60 years, there isn't much more to burn or tear down. Maybe they can take a run at the liquor stores and throw their obamaphones in the blaze!

I guess this means we can add Detroit to that long list of things you don't know shit about.

Ah, yet the fact that the GOP planned on getting rid of him the night of his inauguration indicates that he isnt the one unable to fit into your statement of "I want a President who can play well with others".

Speaking of truth, got any proof of this bullshit claim?

p.s. McConnell didn't become Majority Leader until 2010

Nope. The challenge of that promise he introduced himself with, was in front of him from day one. Not only did he fail at it every day since then, his stated plan for a second term is more of the same.

We need to let him go.

The inauguration meeting has been mentioned by more than one source. RCP's Tom Bevan and Carl Cannon talked about it in their book Election 2012: The Battle Begins

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/books/election_2012_the_battle_begins/

So lets get that out of the way that the meeting never took place.

Now, onto the meat of the issue.

Robert Draper wrote Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives

Now, I might have been skeptical, except I cannot find one argument against the validity of this meeting. And, since others are also writing it took place,, hard to disbelieve.

WASHINGTON -- As President Barack Obama was celebrating his inauguration at various balls, top Republican lawmakers and strategists were conjuring up ways to submarine his presidency at a private dinner in Washington.

The event -- which provides a telling revelation for how quickly the post-election climate soured -- serves as the prologue of Robert Draper's much-discussed and heavily-reported new book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives."

According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) -- who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.

For several hours in the Caucus Room (a high-end D.C. establishment), the book says they plotted out ways to not just win back political power, but to also put the brakes on Obama's legislative platform.

"If you act like you're the minority, you're going to stay in the minority," Draper quotes McCarthy as saying. "We've gotta challenge them on every single bill and challenge them on every single campaign."

The conversation got only more specific from there, Draper reports. Kyl suggested going after incoming Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for failing to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes while at the International Monetary Fund. Gingrich noted that House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) had a similar tax problem. McCarthy chimed in to declare "there's a web" before arguing that Republicans could put pressure on any Democrat who accepted campaign money from Rangel to give it back.

"You will remember this day," Draper reports Newt Gingrich as saying on the way out. "You’ll remember this as the day the seeds of 2012 were sown."

I disagree. Who needs to be let go are those who, from day one, vowed to put their own politics before the good of the people.

Fwiw, McConnell is the minority leader. So far as I can tell from my quick research, he's held the position since 2006.

Except I reject your premise, Tazzy. Having one side of our discussion roll over and play dead is NEVER in the best interest of the American people.

Seriously, if it goes Romney's way, and once ya'll get over the hysterics, we could use some liberal noisemakers on liberal issues again. This President has set a few precedents that need to challenged by the folks who once allegedly cared about such things.

Thats obstructionism. This is what YOU want in your federal government? No one asked them to roll over and play dead. From the start, they vowed to not even try.

BTW, this is the guy I'll happily be voting for on Tuesday. I've actually spent more time talking to his opponent, than I have with him, but there's no question who I want representing me in Congress.

Except the Dems ultimately lack the skills and balls to do it effectively. Kevin's method led to a 60+ seat victory, and control of the House. Harry will be pissing his pants over possibly losing control of the Senate in '14.

Ah so you believe. Lots can get tied up in a Dem Controlled Senate.

This is, of course, assuming your belief of a Romney Presidency is true... I dont.

The question of this thread is a hypothetical, Tazzy. If you look at the polls, they say President Obama squeaks in for another term. If you look at the straight fundamentals, then Romney is going to be our next President.

One way or another, I'll get up and go to work on Wednesday. I hope I won't feel any need at all to be armed when I do so.
