buzbuz -> Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 10:58:34 AM)

There seems to be a recent glut of profiles doing nothing more than advertising [Link deleted] could that url (and any others doing similar) not be placed into a global replace to be changed for a suitable phrase like - "THIS ISN'T A REAL PROFILE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME"

mnottertail -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 10:59:05 AM)

But thats what that says in the original.

OsideGirl -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 11:00:46 AM)

We get several threads a week bitching about fakes and scams.

I would suggest that if the profile bothers you that much to just put it on hide, then you'll never have to see it again.

anniezz338 -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 11:04:57 AM)

Profiles are adverts. The other sites listed inside their profiles may or may not mean anything at all, like if someone is also on fetlife. There are fakes and scammers on every personals site there is. Just part of the landscape.

buzbuz -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 11:05:22 AM)

No particular profile bothers me - but whilst forever these sites feel they can advertise here for free in this way they will continue to do so - if they are prevented from doing it then hopefully they may go off somewhere else. Adding urls to global replace shouldn't be too difficult - I know we do it on a site I admin for similar reasons.

collarme's ad revenue is based on the number of unique users. So while they,do nothing to,help scammers they also do nothing, not even no brainer things, to prevent them.

I doubt that. It's more likely based on impressions.

kalikshama -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 1:59:51 PM)

Have you availed yourself of the Report User feature? (You must be in the preview page to do this.)

After you report them, put them on Hide.

Yes, that's how my company pays for ads - impressions, clicks, or conversions.

I'm not even sure if I understand your question (since it wasn't even remotely grammatically correct, nor did it use proper syntax), however, I'll make my best effort to respond.

YOU'RE A GUY.

YOU HAVE A PENIS.

YOU LOSE.

(Any questions?)

littlewonder -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/2/2012 8:35:59 PM)

You do realize you will get the same advertised profiles on vanilla dating sites too, and forums. It's not a sex thing or a bdsm thing. It's an internet thing. If you have a problem with them, then I suggest turning off your computer...and your tv. They will get you there too.

Agree, though the OP does have a point as well. We are not allowed to mention the other site. The one starts with an "F" and ends with "life." Saw the above mentioned site too, and blocked them all. On a daily basis I do hide and block 4 to 5 profiles. Set a reasonable lower age limit too. It took a while, but now I do have a high percentage of real profiles. It is not all bad either. I got a lot of inspiration for my journal from fake ads. Don't let this pull you down. Turn it in something positive! Not a masterpiece, but I think of it being funny:

quote:

Dear Female Dominant, 25-ish, Wherever you are

Smiling at me, so innocent
Lovely photo, lifted in contempt

Taken from a models' book
We both know you're a crook

Promise the world, set an easy bar
Everyone knows, what you really are

Time to say goodbye, you pretty doll
You're a male scammer, simply a troll

Such an easy thing, that must be done
Click "Block User", and you'll be gone

Cheers! [:)]

GreedyTop -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/3/2012 6:20:52 AM)

Fetlife is mentioned quite frequently, actually.

theRose4U -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/3/2012 7:06:43 AM)

While I'm not a fan of spam (except grilled with pineapple),I think the OP is making a bigger deal of it than its worth. This site is paid on clicks/members there's your reason..no big conspiracy! Frankly the whole thng is tinged with whine for me...waaaa I have to look @ wankers...waaa a perfect sub isn't jumping in my net...waa I'll never get laid!!

SexyThoughts -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/8/2012 1:37:44 AM)

I LOVE real profiles

I like fake profiles that look like adverts.

I hate fake profiles that look real.

STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING ABOUT CYBER PROBLEMS THAT ARE FUCKING GOOD FOR YOUR REAL LIFE!!! [:D]

FAKE profiles that look FAKE, are not as bad as the alternative!!

SchrodingerSock -> RE: Profiles as adverts (11/8/2012 7:56:46 AM)

I agree with few points raised here. All sites everywhere are inundated fakes and scammers, and that's not counting alter egos. But it would be nice to see all these profiles, on all sites, fired out of a cannon into the sun. But bear in mind its not in some sites interests to do anything about this, nor ghost profiles.

Invariably any sites downfall, traffic tail off or reputation is a reflection of the quality/reality of users.

TinEye, reverse google image search will pick up the more obvious nicked pictures and just hit the report button for those ones.
