Historically, that hasn't really been true. When you look over America's major wars, they were mostly overseen by Democratic administrations. Democrats have shown a willingness to go to war if/when they feel it's necessary. During and after World War II, America's foreign policies (i.e. Cold War, interventionism, containment) were mainly formulated by Democrats, with the Republicans largely embracing and continuing with those policies, while abandoning their previous isolationism. The rest is just politics, but both parties have been part of the same organization which has brought about war and peace, for better or worse.

Well, I'm not sure which way the election will go, but I hope we don't go to war. What the U.S. should do is abandon our interventionist foreign entanglements and withdraw from all permanent alliances and overseas military installations. I don't see either candidate advocating for that, so as long as we maintain our participation in these global treaties and overseas alliances, then there will always be a possibility for war, no matter who is in office.
