The Massachusetts Senate race is close right up until the end, with three major polls showing Elizabeth Warren pulling ahead and two newspaper polls showing close to a tie. If Warren defeats Republican Senator Scott Brown, who was once seen as an easy bet for reelection, it’s likely to trigger one of the strongest cases of political regret in recent memory.

Congressional Republicans, Wall Street bankers, and business lobbyists will be confronted with the possibility that by driving Warren out of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which she helped establish, and which they agitated to keep her from heading, they created a far bigger and more threatening animal: a hugely ambitious senator with national star power, command of financial affairs, and the stature to influence President Obama (should he prevail) or play the role of maddening foil to President Romney.

I hope she prevails, but I still would have preferred her as head of the CFPB, so she could do something that no regulator has done for years; actually do her job. Actually looking out for citizens: what a concept.

The fact that the Republicans so adamantly opposed her confirmation convinced me (as if further convincing were needed) that they fight to the death any measure that would keep people (our own citizens) from becoming poorer, as they and their nut-job media banshees and their listeners whine endlessly about the safety net programs, whose ranks their policies are responsible for increasing exponentially.

I'll say it again;

If you hate poor people so much, then quit doing everything possible to create more of them.

Or at least just STFU.

Preferably both.
