ORIGINAL: BenevolentM Can these words also be given a Christian interpretation? No, they can't. Fucking up the moment in the hope of a possible reward is what Christianity is all about. (It'd be a lot more tolerable if Christians were content to keep this moral parsimony to themselves, instead of trying to spoil everybody else's fun, mind.) This is the position that I believe the Russian Orthodox Church took. It decided to stay out of politics, not to say that it had a choice. Should the Church impose its views on those outside of the faith? One reason why it is necessary is because none of us live in a vacuum. Everything is interconnected and the world has become increasingly interconnected. Everything effects everything else. The Church is a part of the wider community. Iran through poverty has reduced its surface area; thus, exposure to hazards. Because the Church is a part of the community it does not have this luxury. It cannot reduce its surface area in the same way a nation can. Nations have clearly defined boundaries.
