PunisherNOLA -> Colorado votes to legalize pot... (11/6/2012 9:22:25 PM)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/06/amendment-64-passes-in-co_n_2079899.html

Could be a great form of new tax income.

JanahX -> RE: Colorado votes to legalize pot... (11/6/2012 9:24:24 PM)

Its about time. Im no pot smoker, but Ive also never thought that it should be illegal. I hope that this opens doors.

That isn't where the real benefits are going to be. It's the savings, and the social benefits of ending the underground market.

I don't smoke it either. I'm looking at it as a chance to to raise some extra cash for those coffers in the form of tax dollars. It should have the same restrictions as alcohol, IMO.

That too.. There are certainly more than the new taxes that will be a positive benefit.

One of the few costs for this type of legislation is increased drug testing.... at least in the beginning.

erieangel -> RE: Colorado votes to legalize pot... (11/6/2012 9:33:14 PM)

Washington state did the same.

And Maryland legalized same sex marriage at the voting booth (something I don't agree with when it comes to a person's civil rights, but for once it went the way it should have gone).

tazzygirl -> RE: Colorado votes to legalize pot... (11/6/2012 9:34:45 PM)

I always thought... go after the legal right to form a union. Worry about what you call it afterwards.

Great quote from the Colorado Governor.. "Don't break out the cheetos and goldfish just yet.." Of course there will be federal challenges to the vote, seeing that it's still illegal as far as the federal government is concerned.

I agree with you. OTOH, I'm not gay and my gay son says it is important that they fight for marriage not civil unions--if they go the way of civil unions, he feels (and much of that community feels) they will never be granted marriage rights.

Yes, I agree with that. When it's a "civil union" it separates it from marriage between a man and a woman. It's sort of like Don't Ask, Don't Tell in the military.

tweakabelle -> RE: Colorado votes to legalize pot... (11/6/2012 10:07:38 PM)

Yup, there is going to be some relocating going on ......

All the rightwingers will be emigrating to places like the UK, New Zealand and even Mongolia with their tails between their legs. These are ideal spots for people who are going to spend the next 4 years eating their own words.

Colorado and Washington can anticipate large numbers of young highly educated liberals migrating there .....

I think -- well, let's just put it this way.

Obama's not running for reelection in 2016....

Lordandmaster -> RE: Colorado votes to legalize pot... (11/7/2012 3:37:53 AM)

The difference is that civil unions are irrelevant for federal tax purposes.  Also, states that don't recognize civil unions won't recognize civil unions filed in other states.  Only marriage is recognized across all state boundaries.

The argument you more often hear is moral though: Why should gays have to settle for a second-rate marriage?

In other news, Doritos stock opened 10 points higher this morning.

So you can smoke a doob in Colorado but you can't buy a Big Gulp in NYC.

Might even stop money flooding out of the country by way of drugs cartels run by pondlife.
(Mind you, legalising cocaine would do a lot better for that one, wouldn't it?)

LMAO...

It will be interesting to see how the Feds handle this. I wonder how this will play out with the WH, they can choose to tell the JD not to defend it and let it work it way through the courts and and congress, I think like gay marriage it is only a matter of time until they realize the people want it
