"Only"???

If our fastest ever space ship could travel at, saaaaaay..., 20,000mph, then it would "only" take about 1.5 *million* years to get there.

The Robinson's had it right heading to our closest star of Alpha Centauri - "only" 150,000 years away. lol

The Universe is friggin' BIG.

Focus.

yeah yeah.. but it's still cool that there is a potentially Earth-like planet so relatively close :)

it is a cool find if it turns out to be a viable 'living' place, but we are never going to get there. by we i mean anyone that leaves this planet in an effort to get there. even at light speed it would take 42 years and i doubt we are going to get anywhere near those speeds anytime soon. however, if we can master cryogenics, build ships big enough to hold a population and a generation crew (ala alastair reynolds lighthugger ships crewed by people who breed the next generation of ship runners) we could do it.

we may have to slow up on screwing each other over though first, slow down on killing this planet, and print a shit load of cash.

great find though.

The fact that it may be habitable doesn't mean we're trying to get there (which would certainly be impossible, yes - and good thing, too - we don't need to go galavanting off into space, destroying other planets =p). To me, what it means is that there might already BE life living there, and what if it's intelligent life? We may not be able to visit them, but maybe we can communicate some way? IF they're there.

There are no planets around that star.

Don't forget this is one of many universes . The thought of the human race going out into the stars scares the hell out of me . We have people who we can't feed now and many who just want to kill everyone else . What will they do when the do meet a new race ?

it really is cool GT. it's just my wishful thinking about getting off of this rock lol

potentially though we know we are depleting all of our rescourses. i should think that we are primarily looking for other planets that we can move to in some future. i have the feeling that actually the powers that be would rather we didn't find life on these planets. that way if we ever need to go there we won't have to fight for it. in the mean time we can look for life in places that won't matter so much.

now if they could just hurry and get us some pics coz you know without pics it didn't happen

Eat em or kill em?

It's impossible with our current technology. Who knows what we'll come up with.
