My daughter has forgotten her lock code on her iPod Touch. We want to restore it to factory settings.

I don't have the computer it was originally synced with.
I have updated to the latest version of iTunes.
I have powered down the iPod while it was disconnected to the computer, then held the Home button down while connecting it, then waited for the "connect to iTunes" screen to show.
I have tried every USB port I have.
I have restarted my computer.
I have visited many Apple support forums and followed many different tips.

iTunes won't recognize the iPod...or when it does, I only get a message saying it must be unlocked on the device to go any further.

I only want it restored to factory settings and I have been looking for hours...nay...days...and I can't figure out how to do it.

Now the annoying little fucker is talking in German to me - in whole paragraphs. It's having an entire conversation with me in some sort of weird alternate not-quite-on and not-quite-off state and I don't know what it's telling me.

I'm begging you....can anybody please tell me how to reset this iPod Touch to factory settings? Please?

You may have to completely erase it. You should be able to do it from iTunes.

I rather suspect that the lock code has the purpose to prevent thieves from accessing the thing and restoring it to factory settings.

I think that it may be best to go back to the shop with the thing and with the evidence of ownership and perhaps they will then be of help to you.

what you want to do is put your ipod in recovery mode and restore the factory settings. do this while your device is plugged up.

to put it in recovery mode:

1. press the power button (on top) and the home button (big button under the screen) at the same time.

2. when the screen goes blank, release the power button and keep holding the home button until you see an apple on the screen, followed by the "connect to itunes screen."

3. you should see the recovery mode alert when you open itunes. click ok.

4. itunes will ask you whether you want to restore to factory settings. click yes, or the restore to factory settings option.

that should work. if it doesn't, inbox me and i'll try to help. this has happened to be a bunch of times, with my touch and my iphone.

Alternatively, you might try to not remember the locker code consciously. Close your eyes and let your hand/body type in the code. The body has done so before and may have the required memory to do it again.

okay...the problem with closing your eyes to solve this issue is that you need eyes to restore it to factory settings, which is what the OP asked. trying to remember the code DIDN'T WORK.

The code did not work becuase the daughter did not remember the code - but her body might.

If her body cannot remember the necessary movements either, she can use your method to restore the factory settings.

That worked! Thank you! :) It's restoring as I type.

I had done something very similar to this. The trick was holding the power button down at the same time as the home button. Go figure.

(LOL - see? Why did I even go to the tech boards? Obviously I should go right to BDSM discussion boards when I need to know how to restore an iPod. Duh.)
