TURLOCK -- A Turlock woman who posted inflammatory comments on Facebook about President Barack Obama has been fired from her job and reported to the U.S. Secret Service.

Turlock resident Denise Helms, 22, posted shortly after the president's re-election Tuesday on her Facebook page, "And another 4 years of the (n-----). Maybe he will get assassinated this term..!!"

The Montgomery field office of the Secret Service is investigating a scarecrow resembling President Obama discovered on the front porch of a residence near Ozark holding a sign reading “Pray for an Assassin.”

“We are currently looking into the matter,” Clayton Slay, resident agent in charge of the Montgomery field office.

“We take all threats seriously and anything that can be inferred as a threat” is investigated, he said, adding that is not saying this effigy does constitute a threat.

The stupidity of people (And I make no claims as to the political affiliation of any of these people may be) is simply amazing!

Just a comment. The article claims that there are some counties in Colorado that had more voters than registered voters. That may actually be true - I heard on the television news that some polling places, swamped by heavy turnout, referred overflow voters to other locations. And they marveled that the voters were determined to be heard and didn't complain about the drive. So I could see a small-population county having more voters than registered. Note that the overall ratio of voters to eligible was still 41% - 44%.

i read about the turlock woman last night. i was going to post it on the thread about racism being a dead issue, but it's gone.

all i could do was shake my head.

vincentML -> RE: Latest round of threats on social media (11/10/2012 2:32:17 PM)

Some irony in the story . . . Helms' denial that her remark was racist, and she was not registered to vote.

The Law cited . . U.S. Code Section 871 . . . refers to a threat made by mail. i wonder if it has been amended to include an internet posting.

tazzygirl -> RE: Latest round of threats on social media (11/10/2012 2:46:56 PM)

I dont see an amendment... nor do I think one would be needed.

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Latest round of threats on social media (11/10/2012 3:49:50 PM)

I am deeply saddened by these reports, but also not shocked.

There are still so many out there who hate our President for no other reason than the color of his skin. It's not even about his politics. They just hate the fact that America has a black president.

It is my hope that over time, this element of society will continue to shrink. And the election results actually support that notion.

People who continue to think this was ever a "white" only country have not read their history.

The original inhabitants of what we now call North America were NOT white.

The county's infrastructure was built on slave labor that was NOT white.

What did the whites do other than exploit two different races of people in order to gain dominance over the natural resources of this geographic area?

African-Americans have been here as long as white people and Native Americans for even longer. This country was multiracial from the start. I am sick and tired of people talking about America as if it started out as a white only country. What a ridiculous reading of history that is.

This along with the thread about the teen twitter about moving to Australia just shows how ignorant and narrow minded the racist right wing is. Get over yourselves already. [&:]

Sadly, this crap is nothing new. A few years ago, after Obama was elected the 1st time, I saw one of those rental signs (it has lights, plastic letters, and wheels so you can haul it behind your car) that read "Lynch Obama". This was parked out in front of a business in Lowell, IN.

What is surprising to me about the person in the OP is that she is only 22 and a woman. Does she really think she would do better under a Romney/Ryan regime? Nah, probably just another hard core racist.

So some bitch, too dumb to exercise her franchise, made a stupid post on facebook and lost her job.
Karl Rove denies facts that don't agree with his preconceived notions of how he wants the world to behave and he's still workng.
Is that about it ?

Aylee -> RE: Latest round of threats on social media (11/10/2012 4:07:29 PM)

Ya know, more and more I am wishing that there was some sort of test (not of politics) that people had to take before being allowed online. Maybe Heinlein's suggestion of solving a quadratic equation.

A personal benefit is that it would keep a couple of my family members from posting on FB.

Loved the irony in the womans comment. It shows the main problem with racists, not just in the US but in the UK as well. They just dont get what they are saying.

"WOW is all I got to say!! I'm not racist and I'm not crazy. just simply stating my opinion.!!!"

tazzygirl -> RE: Latest round of threats on social media (11/10/2012 5:00:10 PM)

and because its her opinion, that makes it all better. [8|]

TheHeretic -> RE: Latest round of threats on social media (11/10/2012 6:52:55 PM)

Someone (credit where it's due, but I don't recall exactly - DC, maybe?) posted the results of a study recently that showed that Democrats are less likely to say racist things, than they are to hold racist attitudes, while Republicans were more likely to say racist things, than they were to actually be racists.

How many people who mocked the requirement that Mormon rituals include special clothing be worn sometimes, actually hate Mormons, vs. people who were just looking for an easy cheapshot against someone they didn't like?

Or she might just be a stupid little racist twat who deserves her encounter with the Secret Service.

And speaking of the Secret Service, I hope like hell they have gotten their shit together. We already had the kid from the Occupy camp who was taking shots at the White House.

SEPTEMBER 6--A North Carolina man was arrested yesterday for threatening to kill President Barack Obama in a series of Twitter messages, one of which warned that, “Ima hit president Obama with that Lee Harvey Oswald swag,” The Smoking Gun has learned.

An interesting character to be sure.

As I recall the study, Republicans were more explicitly racist while Democrats' racism was revealed when tested implicitly. I do not recall that the study quantified the overall racism in either group, but I suspect racism is alive and well in both. Perhaps clouded by the desire among Dems to be politically correct. It is an evil that does not die easily.
