An interesting concept, Rule. But I am a little confused. The sperm communicates its purpose to the Divine even if it is unaware it has a purpose. Does communication presuppose consciousness in the sperm? Or is it sufficient that the consciousness is in the Divine only?

As I said: it is questionable whether the Divine is aware of the purpose of the sperm. I deem it more likely that in the case of such trivia an automated response is performed. It is far more likely that the spiritual communication between the love making parents, or that initiated by a relative or neighbor or a congregation, or even an individual of another species on the other side of the world has a far greater influence than that of the spermatozoid or the bunch of spermatozoids.

Okaaaayyyyyy then. I won't even go there with you. [:D]

Are sperm conscious?

Damn, I hope not.

Interestingly, consciousness is not required to explain biological activity. There is nothing to predict that biological systems would be aware of having any kind of experience at all. Nevertheless, we are sure that we do, and that other living things do too. Some people feel there should be a limit on who we allow into the consciousness club. But consciousness appears to be a quality that exists on a continuum, ranging from lower and more limited forms to higher and fuller expressions. Spermatozoa would be pretty far down the scale, though. So you probably don't need to worry about giving them Christmas stockings.

Does this statement cover the current state of the average politician of either party? Considering some of the stuff that have come from both sides of the fence lately, I am not real sure they are even an intelligent life form.

I trimmed the quote you included to highlight the statement that I believe may apply.
