Currently I am enjoying Ken Follett's sequel to "Fall of Giants(a really great book)called "Winter of the World".An epic in the tradition of "Pillars of the Earth"
Follett is amazing in his versatility,he is more well known for war time(mostly wwII) espionage thrillers ,like "on the wings of eagles" which was made into a movie(I think)...yet he has done an awesome job with these multi generational epics that span continents andinclude historical figures dropping in from time to time.

school textbooks. Fun huh? [:-]

Master just found a book for me called, "Street Gang: The History of Sesame Street" by Michael Davis and Caroll Spinney. He thought I'd enjoy it so hopefully as soon as I finish with my classes, I will have some time for it.

"Early Christian Worlds", an art book of all that big-eyed, cartoony, Coptic(ish), Icon-like art that I have loved forever. 'Thinking about a trip to that part of the world in the spring. It's a little on the dry side, obviously, but has great pics. Art books now go for song used on Amazon. I guess they are pretty archaic these days.

I read the Anthony Keidis autobio (Red Hot Chilli Pepper guy) on my honeymoon and was really impressed. 12 step survivor tales tend towards the preachy, but his humanity (and all the good sex and drug dirt) comes through very eloquently.

Bio's by Steven Tyler (sounded like him doing his stage persona) and Andy Kershaw (full of himself World Music DJ) had me skimming and laughing, but not in a good way.

I just also started a history of the Surrealists, but mostly they just went to cafe's and dull meetings to fight about whether or not to throw their lot in with the communists, so again, I'm mostly surfing the pics. Man Ray was def the greatest Dom artist of all time, tho. "Surrealists Talk About Sex" was dull too. I mean, they do, but not any big surrealist names, and not in any hot kind of way.

Currently I stick to Donald Duck....seriously....I have by far not enough concentration right now to read a real book...and Donald Duck helps me to take my mind off things, before falling asleep [:)]

I'm trudging my way through IQ84. It's good but very long and I get distracted by shiny things.

Just cracked open W.A.R.  The Unauthorized Bio. of William Axl Rose.  Looks fairly interesting as I am a GnR fan.  Bought The Life of Pi to read after that, and Summer of '42 will take me through the end of the month.   Having a quiet somewhat boring job allows me lots of reading time, and thankfully my current patient is an avid reader also.

I see "Killing Kennedy" is out .........Hoping Santa knows that one is on my list too :)

Geez I'd read a cereal box if I had nothing else.  lol

Just finished Exile According To Julia, by Gisèle Pineau, a rather melancholic book set among an Antillean diaspora family living in post-war France.

I loved Fall of Giants but haven't gotten Winter of the World yet. Is it as good?

I'm reading Woodrow Wilson: World Statesman by Kendrick A. Clements.

Recently finished The Woman Who Died A Lot by my favorite author Jasper Fforde. Either reading The Last Dragonslayer (Fforde) next, or Mini Shopaholic. :) I also just re-read my very first National Novel Writing Month novel... from when I was 16. Wow, my writing has NOT improved.

littlewonder -> RE: Another "what are you reading" thread (11/13/2012 11:29:37 PM)

Has anyone read the new book, "The Casual Vacancy" by J.K. Rowling yet? What is your review? I was thinking of picking it up. I've heard rave reviews of it.

dublinemma -> RE: Another "what are you reading" thread (11/14/2012 12:24:16 AM)

I just finished "The Guilty One" by Lisa Ballantyne. It was very good, although somewhat predictable. It's about a lawyer who is defending an 11 year old boy accused of murdering a child. Every second chapter or so reflects on his own troubled childhood in foster care. There are some flaws but overall a good read.
