Niney, while rabbit might taste good, they aren't that nutritious. They are extremely lean and to survive out in the wilds you need more fat.The old mountain men said eating only rabbit was a slow way to starve. To answer the OP,while I don't foresee a zombie take over,if something else happened I believe I would do better than most.I hunt[killed a deer yesterday],fish and know many edible wild plants and have several books on edible wild plants. And I not only hunt with a gun,I have a crossbow too so I can be quiet when hunting.Plus living out in the sticks,I can literally step out in the pasture behind my house and hit the creek and start hunting.

The Apocalypse Survival Test: http://www.okcupid.com/tests/the-apocalypse-survival-test1

My results:

Your chance of survival: Preparedness: 45%, City Skills: 57%, Survival Skills: 65%, Nature Skills: 46%

Someone I used to see from CM would be quite useful to have around. His scores: Preparedness: 73%, City Skills: 71%, Survival Skills: 94%, Nature Skills: 69%

I looovvve through hiking and camping, the first
thing I realized first time out was, "ok this backpack
is to heavy..." it was like 35kg and bulky, and while
that weight is doable, it severely detracts from the
enjoyment of hiking when carried for hundreds of
miles, and for me, I felt I was really pushing a back or
knee injury.

And so began my year long effort, to make the perfect
camping backpack, I found a few places that were
invaluable in helping me,

The first is TNP (The Nuttnfancy Project) on youtube,
The guy is a avid camper/ hiker and preparedness type
that has videos ranging from gun/knife/tent reviews to
first aid methodology/ concealed carry philosophy.
He is a great reviewer, heaps of gear covered and I
respect his views on a lot of topics.
In short, he saved me a fuck load of money.

B.O.B. (bug out bag),
A search for this on the net or youtube was also very
handy for assembling my camping gear, the people
who tend to make videos on this are ZomPocalypse,
Survivalist type of people, the idea of a B.O.B is
basicly the same as I what I wanted for my backpack.
A bag thats ready to go should I ever want/need to
just get out of the house and go somewhere, just
throw it in the car and your ready for any situation...

Ebay is your friend,
When you start a project like this, (I call it a project,
because it took a year of buying testing, upgrading,
swaping and searching to actually complete, not to
mention over $3000), you will be buying a lot of stuff
thats just not available locally, places like ebay amazon
and the like are really essential.
You two main enemies are weight and bulk, everything
needs to be as light and compact as possible to fit the
most capability into your pack, not to mention make it
carryable and in the hiking world, you should expect to
pay more to get less. The lighter and smaller you go
will almost always translate into expensive.

I can relate to what AS said about the preparedness
thing being a kind of extention of the hiking hobby,
some aspects anyway...
The ZomPocalypse is just a way of saying your
preparing for when the shit hits the fan and having a
sense of humour at the same time.

I'm not at all prepared for any type of Apocalypse but
I am an experienced hiker, shooter, watche every
episode of man vs wild.[:D]
As a certain thread has shown recently, three quarters
of people wil resort to cannibalism to survive so maybe
preparing to fight off people trying to eat your brains
isn't so farfetched...

Everyone needs a zombie survival action plan.

Was the first thing my flat mates and I discussed upon moving in.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Would you survive the zombie apocolypse? (11/13/2012 12:45:19 PM)

Your chance of survival: Preparedness: 45%, City Skills: 29%, Survival Skills: 76%, Nature Skills: 46%

I did poorly on city skills due to my not having a sense of direction (I think), not sure why else I would score so low.

Salinedion -> RE: Would you survive the zombie apocolypse? (11/13/2012 12:56:35 PM)

Sure:

-have gun (but would prefer to use a big axe)
-grow a lot my own food and would be happy to kill Bambi if it came down to it
-live on high ground so I can see 'em coming
-implacable hatred towards the undead, so no prob. in separating the cerebral cortex from the head if it's my zombie-mom or something.

Funny thing I read on the internet zombie board:

Question: What's the best way to kill a zombie?

Ultra-nerd answer: "If invented yet, the light sabre". -Genius or what?

I've been to London I know what the Zombie apocalypse looks like first hand.

mnottertail -> RE: Would you survive the zombie apocolypse? (11/13/2012 1:04:33 PM)

Yup, driving on the wrong side, fookin roundabouts, and pubs closing damn near mid-afternoon to us professionals..........bloody carnage down there mate.

errrrrrr, supersoakers are made of plastic. Petrol dissolves a lot of plastics.

This is why us professional pyrophiles prefer to use LOX and a spent fire extinguisher.

Or highly concentrated sulfuric acid, which heats to ignition temperatures on contact with clothes and skin.

ETA: And my supersoaker can take 90% H2SO4, which I've tested.
E²TA: Err... the squirtgun can. Haven't tested the supersoaker yet. Hmm... todo.

.....And some neighbors grow weed, which would be replacing the useless currency for a while.

To quote the Freak Brothers:

Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Would you survive the zombie apocolypse? (11/13/2012 1:21:22 PM)

Your chance of survival: Preparedness: 36%, City Skills: 29%, Survival Skills: 53%, Nature Skills: 8%

I was below the average mark on every single thing. I'm telling ya, unless someone takes a fancy to my child-bearing hips and decides to save me, I'm food.

littlewonder -> RE: Would you survive the zombie apocolypse? (11/13/2012 1:41:17 PM)

I would probably make it for a little while. I live on a second story with wall to ceiling windows that I can open up and shoot from. If a zombie can climb my stairs to this place, they're doing better than most people who aren't zombies hahaha.

I don't own a gun but this is Baltimore. Guns are easy to find lol and I do know how to shoot one. The only problem would be getting out to get the gun and supplies the first time. After that I could probably last for a little while holed up here. Eventually I would try to make my way to finding a community hold out where I could cook, help with basic first aid, keeping it clean from diseases which would run rampant if it wasn't, tower watch and basically any other skills someone can teach me since I tend to catch on quickly.

I would expect zombies to be pretty slow moving so I think I can outrun any which is kinda what I never understood about zombie movies. Just run.

As for Master, sorry Sir...you're on your own. [:D]

It made me think: would you survive?

Not if my survival group included the folks from "The Walking Dead". I'd waste any ammunition I had killing all of them.

I'm telling ya, unless someone takes a fancy to my child-bearing hips and decides to save me, I'm food.

Then here's what I suggest.

You trade those hips for your share of the future. Choose one person with high levels of crucial qualities (conservation of quality), or one that has made a crucial contribution (honoring input or sacrifice), preferrably two or more to anonymize the paternity. Conceive and bear the child to term. That's your unique contribution. The father gets no part in the child's life beyond what you and hubby permit. Hubby will not bitch, and will treat the child as if it were his own. That's his unique contribution. Together, you'll raise the child, as well as offloading people with indispensable skillsets so their time can be used optimally for the good of all. That's your shared contribution. The payback is the rest try to make it so your contribution will actually matter (i.e. that you all survive so the offspring can be part of repopulating and rebuilding).

Sound like a fair deal?

FR
I took the survival test ...82% on preparedness,71% on city skills,94% on survival skills, and 83% on nature skills. Guess I need to work more on my nature and preparedness skills because if something bad goes down,I'm not going any where near a city....[sm=ugh.gif][sm=book.gif]
