Radio host, and alleged defacto leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh was in rare candid form during the Monday Nov. 12 broadcast of his radio program The Rush Limbaugh Show where he reveled in his prediction of being blamed for the embarrassing GOP loss on election night.

Limbaugh began his segment stating the following:

Just as I predicted, ladies and gentlemen -- wait 'til you hear the sound bites -- this election was lost because of your host, Rush Limbaugh. I am the primary reason.

There are others, but I'm the primary reason the Republican Party lost. And I am, by the way, the primary reason the Republican Party will keep losing, until I am denounced by the Republican Party.

All the election flak going on and the little boy is missing being in the spotlight. I doubt this comment will garner him much attention, but I won't be a bit surprised to hear he has come up with something that will.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Rush Limbaugh: I'm the Reason for GOP Loss (11/13/2012 6:21:02 PM)

I scooped him by 16 years
I blamed Rush and Newt with their divisiveness for the fact that we never had a President Dole.

He, Trump, and Palin can fight it out to see who gets to represent the nutso right wing to the media.

Say what you like but AFAIK Rush is the first leading Republican to publicly accept personal responsibility for the election result. Whatever his reasons for doing so, to date, he is the only one who has stood up and put his principles into practice.

"Personal responsibility" is a mantra of the Right. One direct implication of the principle of personal responsibility is the the Right was responsible for its loss. Rush is the first to say so. The rest are still heavily into denial, or discovering new depths in the business of blame shifting.

I never dreamt I would hear myself saying this but, in this particular instance, Rush has led by example.

Tweak he was being facetious …satire…he does not really mean he is accepting responsibility.

I was speaking a little tongue in cheek, Owner. [:D]

Please excuse me if the irony wasn't as apparent as I felt it was.

No,actually neither is right.Rush wasn't accepting responsibility, nor was he being sarcastic about accepting such responsibility
What Rush was doing was painting himself as the center of his own little universe. One in which folks would blame Rush for the loss, because in Rush's grandiose vision of his own self he wields that sort of influence .
Of course in the real world Rush is nothing more than a radio blowhard, but lets not mention that to him,he has a lot on his plate right now.

Bring Beck, Coulter and Norris in as well, Steven: that way they can sort it out with a tag team match...

MstSebastian -> RE: Rush Limbaugh: I'm the Reason for GOP Loss (11/14/2012 5:04:32 AM)

This is just my take, but I don't think Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, or any of their ilk had anything to do with Romney's loss. The majority of their audience is already right-wing conservatives who will vote GOP no matter who is put up. No, I think the reason for Romney's loss is that it took until now for the GOP to realize what the Democrats realized four years ago. The "rich, old, white men tell you what to do" mentality doesn't work anymore. Obama won in '08 over McCain not because Obama's views were a drastic shift away from the normal views of the Democratic party, but because he made a conscious effort to appeal to the 18-34 demographic...the demographic that the GOP has been ignoring, to their detriment, for years.

It looks, as of right now, like the biggest competitors in the GOP for '16 are people like Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, and Bobby Jindal. Whether you like or dislike their politics and practices, these men do represent a younger, more diverse set of contenders. These are people that the younger demographic can identify with more easily than they can with the likes of McCain, Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum. If the GOP is smart (and all evidence seems to be to the contrary, given their enthusiastic support of Romney), they will give the nod to someone who can appeal to a wider demographic.

The politics of the nation has changed. The makeup of the voters has changed. The Democrats realized this, but the GOP hasn't caught on. They need to catch on, to have a changing of the guard, if they wish to stay relevant.

DarkSteven -> RE: Rush Limbaugh: I'm the Reason for GOP Loss (11/14/2012 6:24:19 AM)

Actually, he has a point. Limbaugh began years ago, in creating an alternative reality. He used skewed facts, or none at all, and actually did a phenomenal job in doing so. It demonized liberals and democrats, degraded women, and was a fun sort of place for misogynists and hardcore conservatives. It was a place where ideology ruled. Rush's world was incorporated into the GOP worldview.

In the GOP worldview, Democrats are weak and spineless (Obama took out OBL to knock the legs out from that), cannot manage money because they spend recklessly on social programs (the fact that the economy tanked under Bush after prosperity under Clinton notwithstanding), increase taxes (I always found it amazing that the GOP would find it fine to increase spending but object to paying for the spending later), hamstring businesses with onerous regulations (even after the banks needed a bailout and BP had a disaster), and waste money on entitlement programs. Also, Obama is not a legitimate President - he was born in Kenya, pals around with Rev Wright and Bill Ayers, is the most socialist President in history, bows to foreign leaders, won't continue the defense buildup, isn't a legitimate citizen, is the worst President ever, etc.
