What has been your experience with the chatrooms?

Are they a mass of the usual BS, or is there something there?

I met my Master in a chat room....yaaa for me

Saying that, I really only really really enjoyed a chatroom when there was a deep and meaningful going on..so glad I found forums...wish I'd found forums sooner actually.

My chatroom experience......what little I've had......wasn't good. Mostly just bs. I like forums a lot better. I'm sure there are some chatrooms that have more good than bs, but I didn't find them and have no desire to go looking.

Chatrooms are useless if you are interested in r/l experience. Most in the rooms aren't.

Chatrooms are the best idea in concept and the worst idea when you actually implement one. I've never seen a chatroom I've liked. Now Instant messenger programs those are good. As they I guess are a form of controlled chatrooms. But the open to anyone chatrooms are a complete waste of bandwidth from my viewpoint.

I spent a lot of time in political chat while in college. I would be doing my research or writing and often I would be logged into a room with the sound down. If I needed a break I would chat for a while. I made many real life friends through chatting, and I became politically active within my community also. I also have been stalked, threatened via chat and emails to the point of people being banned off Yahoo for their stalking of me (so many people complained about the vileness of the names stalking me that Yahoo actually investigated and had this one guy kicked off his ISP for terrorist threats to me and my family). Even though I have had some drama associated with my chat experiences I learned a lot from it.

I also met my first dom in poly chat.

After discovering the complexities of D/s with our discussions I went to BDSM chat, but found it boring. I would rather spend my time talking to him back then.

Do you mean CM specifically, or just chatroms in general?

I've found most chatrooms to be alot of BS. If its a BDSM chatroom with actual themes open for discussion and the moderators keep the trolls under control, then it can be pretty interesting. I found one chatroom on IRC thats actually pretty good and they have a website as well.

I went into the CM chatroom yesterday. The lobby area wasn't too bad, but the sheer amount of private chat requests drove me up the wall.

That's why I decided to try the CM forums, instead.

I posted this thread because I'm not really a chatter, and so wondered at people's fascination with it.

My thread was intended to inquire about the chatrooms here on CM, since, like some of you, I get the flashing chat requests, which I always ignore.

So far, sounds like they're the same old BS, and that anyone desireous of a life wouldn't bother. Thanks.

I stayout of general chats but for years I was role playinginseveral chats includingthe old MSN. Some times it was great and at others it was crap.. Occasionally I pop into the CM Chats usually ito Gorean Highway which doesn't tollerate RP andhave enjoyed just hanging out with some greatpeople when theforums are uiet and I cant be bothered to go and anoy some one else... I do vists regularly the chat in a large persons swingers club and a place for us BBPs to mix without being snipped at by the slimmer folk.. I have a ball there. I have met several of the folks in person at a meet and great which is bloody tanfastic.... Chats are as good as you and others make them.. There will always be the odd arsehole or three but there canbe some great folk too....It's up top each person not to loose their sence of where they are do regular realty checks.... I have a number of people who have beome close friends who I met in chats. My last slave I met in the RP area which moved to YM when it was obvious it was going toward real time and a probable LDR...
