Well, considering the fact that the feds offered the states their own opportunity to take full control (2 years ago) and if they didn't, the feds would....I kinda think my opinion doesn't really matter all that much.

Like anything else in life....if (in the case of the states) the states took the lead and did as they were told some years back (as Washington State did), they'll run the show....those that didn't...the feds will.

My opinion doesn't really carry all that much weight, all things considered.

I think states are in the position of knowing what their particular needs are.. sadly it doesnt look like too many really care.

Doesn't matter. People are going to wait longer, for worse care, and die sooner, in more pain, while we all wind up paying more.

People have no idea yet just how fucked up this law is. They'll learn.

And you are an authority on this law because....?

The feds did not offer the states to take full control. That is the reason that 30 states have so far decided not to have the exchanges.  This is Obamas deal. Let him figure out how to run it..

He has.

The law is written in such a way that states each state will begin to set up the exchanges by a certain date, and that date had been pushed back once because many states had voiced concern about spending the money necessary prior to the election. Any state that does not voluntarily begin setting up their exchange by a certain date will have the feds set it for them.

I'm not claiming to be an authority on it Erie. I'm just in a position to see what the cutting edge looks like.

Know how some insurance companies are handling the pre-existing conditions they have to accept? Re-diagnosis, all the way back to initial testing, before continuing treatment. Kinda sucks when somebody needs regular dialysis, and their new health plan from the state approved options list sends them for preliminary blood testing, to see if there might be a kidney problem.

JMG05 -> RE: Who do you think should run the new health exchanges? (11/16/2012 8:20:49 PM)

The feds left it to the states so that they could tailor it to meet the needs of the individual state with the additional funds they would be getting. For instance watch Vermont and possibly Montana take the federal money and and establish unviersal health care for their state which might turn out to be a model for the nation in the years to come. The states that have told the feds to handle it won't receieve the additional funds so in essence I would think the federal government will lay the groundwork through the exchange for universal healthcare. Too bad the states are acting like children and by not taking the additional money I am sure the hospitals in those states will be raising hell.

All of it that I'm seeing is in California JMG05. Not really Republican country, out this way.

Actually, he/the legislation, did and Washington state has (might even be the first to do so...not sure) finished setting up their system.

They will run all health care in Washington state....not the feds.
