xXsoumisXx -> new "how is it in your state" thread (11/18/2012 9:55:19 PM)

We had a recent necro thread revival, so as requested, here is the new thread.
In my "now" state (Louisiana) there are active groups (RSVP), but i have only met members in private. These meetings scared me off of
going to an actual munch.. or group activity. I am well over 40, and not skinny.. but not a bbw either, just very average for 48.
The few people i met, I was told i would be in very high demand.. as i was not "fat" ... so i never explored further.. i am not available, and
body size, looks.. should not be the focus..
Also, Master is not interested in public play.
In the state i am from.. (WA) I left before i went to anything, but they have awesome camping
activities .. sorry i missied it! (Nicebutmeangirl..insert comment here!)
I am close to NOLA so they may be something we expore in the future.
We would enjoy a lifestyle bed and breakfast, or bar/lounge, some low key lifestyle comraderie, but nothing formal.

Excellent re-start!

I'm just going to cover Alaska, where I am now. (If people need info on CA or GA, I'll chime in.)

Believe it or not, Alaska has a pretty decent scene. Anchorage has multiple activities a week. Fairbanks, a little less so, but there is at least a coffee gathering one time per week. Along with our munches and community dungeons, the Fairbanks community also has regular leather workshops, Dom and sub sigs, (special interest groups) and various single time events.

I tend to judge these things by how welcome I am made by the long term members. For this, the Fairbanks scene is great! There are many folks who have always been in Alaska as well as a number of transplants. We are represented by all age groups, as well as singles, couples, and poly.

There are major events in the state. Within the month, Lee Harrington will have a three day intensive in Anchorage. I was pleased to be the Alaskan presenter this past summer at Northern Exposure, which has hosted such names as Dr Robert Rubel, Master Obsidian and slave namaste, Phoenix B, and dozens of others from across the country.

For Alaska, you may have to travel to get to it, but we've got a community.

Western Virginia (not to be confused with West Virginia) has a fairly dismal scene.

I haven't actually gone to any events, but search on 'Roanoke' and 'BDSM' and you will find very few hits (no pun intended.)

When I lived in PA (I lived all over...western, central, eastern, northern, southern) and there are groups, dungeons, munches are everywhere. Here in Maryland, the same thing. Groups, munches, dungeons are prevalent.

If you can't find one in either of those places, then you're not even looking.

I am not in a state but hey I figure we can do this globally. Alberta, Canada has an active scene. Edmonton and Calgary obviously have a lot going on but so does Lethhbridge, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Fort McMurray. I am sure I left a few out in my ignorance but you generally do not have to travel far to get to something going on in Alberta.

I am not sure how to say this but....I have sort of discovered that based on the two sites I have been on and other ventures that it is rare to find someone in my state with whom I have a lot in common. That is all I will say for now because I don't want to sound.....elitist? I have messaged with a few people here with whom I could discuss things of depth, but the other site.....oh my goodness. The one person I met for lunch had no teeth...I kid you not.

The greater Denver scene is pretty good.

Colorado Springs has one group, Celebration of Power. They have a monthly munch and a monthly play party.

Denver has two major dungeons, the RACK Room and the Sanctuary. Skales is a weekly mini-seminar. Scarlet Moons is a monthly spanking club, and Denver Whips is a monthly potluck/whipping group. Denver Bound is a bondage course, and the R&L parties are a monthly play party. We have munches in Boulder, Denver, Longmont, and I believe Greeley and Fort Collins.

South Florida is kinktopia.

There's 5 munches within a 10 mile radius from me. Many of the groups take "road trips" to dungeons/munches/parties/events to other parts of the state. In April there's Beyond Leather in Ft Lauderdale, July/August is FetishCon in Tampa, and I forget where & when the Florida Bash is held. There's a public dungeon here in Pompano Beach & a private "invite only" one in Oakland Park. They both are venues for awesome parties. South Florida Munch has links to the different local events, too.

After Thanksgiving I'll be heading to another kink friendly area. Chicago. I hear a sadist there likes to use a fiberglass arrow to warm butts. [:D]

California is too big for one person.

So Cal has a ton!

San Diego has a ton of socials (ice cream, bowling, coffee), discussion groups, and things in general going on. We now have one party space downtown and Club X too.

Same with OC. Dragon's Gate in Yorba Linda, too.

LA has Threshold and the Lair. Lots and lots of groups. Whip practice in the park, etc.

Northeast TN here. It's a small group but friendly. We have a munch monthly and there's another group about an hour away that we try to coordinate with as a lot of folks are members of both. Occasional "Field Trips" to Club FET in knoxville as well.

In my limited experience with the local public lifestyle venue, I am feeling like the centeal Florida area is kind of slim pickins. There are a handful of rgular munches, but only ONE public playspace (that's too far and too costly for us to go on a regular basis)

I am SURE that some of the above feeling however, is based on my lack of motivation to get my ass out the door and find shit to do.
At least I hope that's the case anyway. :)

NY: there's a thriving scene in NYC, also Albany, also Syracuse. Alas I'm half way between NYC and Albany and a two hour drive each way is more than we want to do.

A lot of NY State is small towns and a long drive to a big city, so there's not much happening. The whole Southern Tier is like this.
