mountainman02 -> Chapter the first: in which a newcomer introduces himself (11/18/2012 11:27:23 PM)

Thought I'd pop in and say hello. I'm getting into this for the first time. I've always been interested in d/s and have some experience in a dominant role with bondage, spanking, etc. in adventurous vanilla relationships, but had no idea how to approach it as a way of life. My experience here thus far has been positive. Talked to someone experienced in the lifestyle who offered to introduce me to a mentor. For now I'm reading up and learning so I don't make an ass of myself, but I look forward to getting more involved in the community soon.

Welcome to the discussion side! There are plenty of people on here who are more than able, and willing, to help people learn more and more about the BDSM/Fetish/Kink/Unicorn-hunting world!

Welcome aboard. [:)]

Welcome!

The fact that you speak as if you're at least willing to be mentored puts you miles ahead of so many people that come here, knowing everything.

I honestly think that you'll do really well and don't worry about "making an ass" of yourself. If we made a pre-requisite that only people who have NEVER done that could hang around, we'd have no one here to welcome you!

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I think the willingness to learn is from a) understanding the difference between being a dom and being an asshole, and b) working with my hands for a living. You get used to the apprenticeship model: you learn from the veterans until you know enough to start teaching.

I was right. You'll do fine.

Peace and comfort,

Fun thread title, though I'm glad you didn't write your introduction in the narrative style. [:D]

Welcome. Come have fun here.

You are going to scare him off! lol

Welcome to the forums, keep a stick ready for the HNGs and while there is a good deal of information here you may want to look into your local community. Nothing wrong with getting some information here but nothing takes the place of real life interaction.

My two cents and may not be the views of well anyone else!

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm just trying to become more informed before I test the waters locally and meet with a mentor.

I'm so glad that you come in as a perspective Dom wanting to learn! I don't commonly see newbie Doms that are willing to sit down and admit that they're looking to learn and want a mentor!

Welcome to the forums! Enjoy your stay! [sm=cheering.gif]

Mountainman, good intro.
Here is an idea. Google "Munch Groups" and add your city. These are groups of people engaged in this who get together informally once a month or so in a vanilla setting.
FET also is set up so you can look in your specific area for groups. A lot of these groups have mentoring programs as well. Have fun and welcome.

ETA. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.

LOL... sometimes I like to go back to some of my earliest posts just to remind myself how stupid I was.

@mountainman
When you say "approach it as a way of life" the word "this" leaves a lot of room for interpretation. That might mean anything from "I want kinky games scattered throughout my life in a more or less 24/7 sort of way" to "I want to own property". The first thing you're going to need to do is to be able to clarify, at last to yourself, what "this" is. If you could imagine some theoretically perfect future relationship, how would it differ from your current or past ones?" What is the "this" which is missing?

Hi Mr. Man02 (or, as a forum pal, may I call you Mountain?)

A smile is a great way to get anyone's attention. An excellent way to get distinguish yourself from the pack.

Your thread title did that. Your profile wordplay does as well.

I echo the above points about giving a bit more detail on who/what you seek and on finding real folks to socialize with & learn from.

Welcome!

mountainman02 -> RE: Chapter the first: in which a newcomer introduces himself (11/20/2012 8:29:06 PM)

Either will be fine.

Thanks for the feedback on clarification. I'm still learning about the wide spectrum of d/s relationships and figuring out where I fit in. I'd say in the long term, I'm probably looking for something like 24/7 50's-style household + s/m in the boudoir. Definitely not total power exchange. In social or workplace situations where I'm in charge, I enjoy the control of having things exactly as I want them, the trust that I'll do what's right, and the satisfaction that comes from making good on responsibility from a position of power. In the short term, I'll meet with a mentor and check out a local munch. In the immediate term (as soon as I stop writing this message), I'll start reading Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns.
