Hopefully this is the right place to post this.
Disclaimer: I have no vest interest in My recommendation. It stands on it's own. You decide if you need it. Just passing it on to those of like mindset.
I use to and still do make My own equipment. Not always did I have access to machinery or milling or routering equipment.
I was reading Wired magizine a few issues back and came across an article where the author was building a guitar that he designed using the program and production services.

eMachineShop - where you can instantly design, price and order your custom parts online!
eMachineShop is the remarkable new way to get the custom parts you need - the first true online machine shop. Download our free software, draw your part, and click to order - it's easy! Your parts will be machined and delivered - at low cost
I have downloaded the program and thought I would just pass it on.
Happy building!

eMachineShop is a neat concept but their prices aren't the best in the world.  For the layperson who doesn't have any local contacts and needs something fabricated, it's probably the best bet.  Their software is simple and easy to use, and that's their primary draw.  For one-offs or small production runs, you're going to pay through the nose for setup and tooling, but that's going to be true no matter where you go.  On larger production runs they're a little more competitive, but still higher than other shops.

For anyone who uses any kind of CAD or solid modeling software that can produce dimensioned mechanical drawings, they can submit them through a website called MFG.com to thousands of production and fabrication companies.  Interested shops will reply and quote a price for the job.  I use them at work all the time to produce custom brackets and mounting assemblys and job quotes from these companies beats the eMachines pricing by 25-30% on average.
