Read a great Op-Ed yesterday. Here are the basics redacted from it: Right-wing media is an attractive business for a variety of reasons that have nothing or little to do with who actually wins or loses...... The fact that a larger part of the country has now been shown to be unsympathetic to the right-wing media demo ought to be of little concern to right-wing media owners...... Yet, there is a symbiosis between politics and media -- between politics and commerce....... Right-wing media encourages and benefits from the fierce dogmatism and confrontational style and hunger for media attention among the conservative insurgents. Right-wing media would be vastly less interesting if it had to rely mainly on the cautious views of fiscal conservatives. The self-dramatizing pundits and exaggerated candidates who have become stars of right-wing media are vivid enough and scary enough to offend the middle and bring anti-conservatives to the polls. Still, right-wing media isn't in the business of electing right-wing candidates. Its business is getting a robust audience. Conflict and polarization are good for ratings. But survival is a good incentive, and the Republican Party may begin to understand that to compete in this new demographic contest, it has to control and shape its own message -- one that's inclusive, broader, less defined, more full of good feeling -- encouraging and tutoring its candidates in the art of calculated blandness. The idea is that the Right Wing media is a business model with a core audience (not going to change) and a confrontational, ratings driven message. This media doesn't care who wins the elections and probably benefits from Democratic victories. If Republicans want to win national elections, they will have to abandon the Fox News talking points. We saw Romney do this win Benghazi. I suppose we will see conservative candidates trying to reap the benefits of Fox News while trying to minimize its baggage. ----- From my own POV, the trouble Republicans have with Fox News is that in reality its not a news organization. Its a propaganda organization (as we saw with their polling results and spin and with their coverage of climate change.) Over the long haul, a political party is going to need better, more accurate information than Fox News can generate.

GOP Doesn't Have A Mitt Romney Problem, It Has A Fox News Problem "Poor Mitt Romney has become a Republican punching bag as leaders within the party denounce his post-election comments about how President Obama won re-election by promising government-funded "gifts" to minority groups and young voters. As Republicans jab Romney though, they're missing the larger, more pressing point: They don't have a Mitt Romney problem. They have a Fox News problem. Romney's "gifts" put-down echoed the infamous claim Romney made during the campaign that 47 percent of Americans see themselves as "victims" and are overly dependent on the government. With the campaign concluded, lots of fellow Republicans now feel free to bash Romney"

Once again we see the Radicals talking not in terms of how to straighten up their act, but on how to spin their filth to make it seem more acceptable to the body politic. As I said elsewhere, the fanatics will prevent any real 'reform', and will no doubt hustle the last few 'reformers' out the door in short order. [sm=beatdeadhorse.gif]

[sm=beatdeadhorse.gif] This is what I see also... which is too bad because I think I'd probably qualify as a "conservative" if there were such a thing nowadays. Lord only knows I'd certainly like a fiscally conservative option to vote for. But like you, what I see is hubris and the general conviction that they just didn't bamboozle us well enough.

Well if by 'Conservative' you mean spending the public moneys in a wise, fiduciarily sound manner, then yes, I agree heartily. If by 'Conservative' you mean - 'Conservative' - then... [sm=dunno.gif]
