ORIGINAL: Aylee Yes. I think that all kids need their father. I did not think that this was political, I just thought it was a harsh thing to ask. The blatant hypocricy in his case is also harsh. He took advantage of something as a child but would deny it to other fatherless children. Let's put it all into context - Rep. Paul Ryan, the GOP’s most outspoken advocate for cutting and privatizing Social Security, has already benefited from Social Security himself, in the form of survivor benefits he received after his father’s untimely death. From the age of 16, when his 55-year-old father died of a heart attack, until he was 18, Ryan received Social Security payments, which, according to a lengthy profile in WI Magazine, he put away for college. The eventual budget czar attended Miami University in Ohio to earn a B.A. in economics and political science, and landed a congressional internship as a junior. The focus in the social entitlements cut conversation has been on seniors, but “survivor benefits,” like the payments that Ryan and his family received, and help for the disabled, account for about a third of Social Security payments. Raw Story I doubt Ryan talks about such cuts because he wants to deny it to other fatherless children. It's actually irrelevant that Ryan was able to take advantage as a teenager of what was offered. It appears that many would hold him to account for not being clairvoyant then as to the fiscal problems today. The left's response of "well, you got it" is childish. Ryan understands the math, though not necessarily where a solution might be found. The problem is that there are people who ignore the math and demand what soon enough will not be capable of being done anyway. Now Moonhead says Absolutely. If he didn't have the testicular fortitude to answer it, he doesn't even belong in the senate, never mind the white house. Hell, he's one of the few who actually is attempting to address the problem directly unlike the silly leftists who ignore the math in favor of their pie in the sky entitlement illusion.
