metamorfosis -> real life reminders (11/27/2012 1:27:29 AM)

I was thinking today that my interactions with my boss remind me of BDSM. For one, he's very controlling, and I have to take pains to get every little detail right: hold the knife just so, pick up the lettuce in a certain way, toss the shrimp with my right hand while I keep the left dry to place the walnuts. I swear, the guy's got rules for everything. He also yells a lot. Sometimes he shoves me around or grabs stuff out of my hands. Or he'll just stand there, knowing that he's in my way, and make me reach around him. The way he walks you just have to get out of his way. He tells me where to eat, when to eat, what to eat, and how to eat it. I'm there most of the waking day, 7 days a week, so I'm pretty constantly in this environment.

I know it's not that close to BDSM. I just think it's funny.

By the way, I'm know I'm painting my boss in a really negative light here. He really is a good guy. He's one of the best bosses I've ever had. He just has these "quirks".

Does anyone else encounter stuff in the vanilla world that reminds them of BDSM?

Pam

I dunno. Either I don't notice it or people just are not that way around me as in the way you described your boss. The closest I guess I could say was my ex boss but she just had no clue what she was doing. She was always trying to tell me how to do something even though I knew it wasn't right, so I'd let her take over, get that "I told you so" smug look on my face and wait for her to come back begging me to fix her fuck ups. lol.

Other than that, it seems when people are around me, even those who are supposedly my superiors, they tend to just leave me be or just forget I'm there which is great because it lets me get stuff done in the correct way without their hanging over my shoulder.

My employer occasionaly gets upset that I "try to run the show"; it really makes her nuts when one of the other co-workers look at me for guidance instead of her.

I had a friend who thought there was something sadomasochistic about the relationship between dentists and their clients.

Being shoved around, being told what to eat, and when to eat..... I bet that's not in the job description, and I have to wonder whether he does that with all his employees or just you. The shoved around part... gets my attention and not in a good way. What would happen if you just said "If you'd like me to move, please just ask.".

Shoving someone out of the way.. that's aggression. If he's got to get by you in order to put out a fire, that's an exception. But shoving? That's aggression. Blocking your way in a way that forces you to walk around him.. that's in-your-face confrontational. Both of these behaviors are often precursors of physical abuse. That doesn't mean it will be in this case, but please be vigilant.

What you permit, you promote.

I'm glad it's not just me...

(I think it's exacerbated by the fact that I also applied for my boss' job. They turned me down for having been with the company over five years, and picked her off the street so they could "shape" her - and she knows it. Which does show a layer of BDSM at work, the execs have a one twue way.)

LOL yes any time I'm around a "big hat" chef it reminds me why dating doms has almost no appeal[:D]

Infinity collars I come across quite a bit & I'm always amused when a frightened sub tries to convince me "its just a necklace"...yeah with a lock pendant...that doesn't come off!

No more often than I encounter things in BDSM that remind me of the vanilla world. People put tremendous spin on things to portray them in the "proper" light.

It would be a real kick to find out that your boss was a boot licking, card carrying submissive behind closed doors, wouldn't it? It happens more often than you think.

Yes... the vanilla world. This is exactly why I say that I draw no distinction between bossing Carol around and bossing anyone else around. For me, dominance is dominance. It's also why I write the phrase "BDSM dominance". It refers to that other thing you're talking about that I acknowledge but do not understand.

I once noted to my physical therapist it was a marriage made in Heaven that he enjoyed hurting people and getting paid for it.
He responded with a big shit-eating grin and said "I know, it's GREAT, isn't it!" [:D]

I love to watch my three cats. Actual natural dominance, submission, and even some switching. Gives me a really good idea about what it is I want and what that will mean. Then again, I just happen to love my cats to iddy bitty pieces. The dog's good, but he's got some learning to do and the cats aren't too shy about...mentoring...him. LOL
