subspaceseven -> The New Revamped GOP (11/29/2012 8:32:46 AM)

After the loss the GOP took this year several GOP leaders said the party needed to broaden it's base to attract women, and minorities. Comments made by two leading Republican governors and an influential U.S. senator on Sunday reflected the soul-searching taking place in the party after Obama's victory over Republican challenger Romney on Nov. 6.

"If we want people to like us, we have to like them first. And you don't start to like people by insulting them and saying their votes were bought," Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, told the "Fox News Sunday" program.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has announced the new House committee leaders: a full slate of white men. While many of these Congressmen are holding on positions they’ve already got, there are a few new faces sitting in the Chairperson’s seat.

Lamar Smith (Texas) — Science, Space and Technology... Smith is a climate change skeptic. Smith refers to supporters of the scientific consensus as “global warming alarmists” Smith received significant donations from both Koch industries and the oil and gas sector in his most recent campaign.

Jeb Hensarling (Texas) — Financial Services.....Wall Street: banks donated more than seven times as much as the next largest industry to Hensarling’s reelection campaign. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hensarling wants to take down the Dodd-Frank regulations and thinks taxing the financial industry is “frankly ludicrous.” Hensarling has also called Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid “cruel Ponzi schemes.”

Ed Royce (California) — Foreign Affairs....he told an anti-Muslim rally that multiculturalism “has paralyzed too many of our citizens to make the critical judgement we need to make to prosper as a society.” He also appears on lead Islamophobic propagandist Frank Gaffney’s radio show, proposed a national version of Arizona’s “papers, please” immigration law,

Michael McCaul (Texas) — Homeland Security.....McCaul enthusiastically endorsed King’s hearings on Islamic terrorism that, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, “demonized” Muslims. McCaul has also celebrated Arizona’s discriminatory “show me your papers” immigration law and compared President Obama to King George III.

Bob Goodlatte (Virginia) — Judiciary.... is staunchly anti-immigrant, opposing a pathway to citizenship and calling the DREAM act “ripe for fraud.” The Judiciary Committee has principal jurisdiction on immigration. Moreover, Goodlatte holds fringe views on the Constitution: he believes that Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional, and that the federal minimum wage may

Local Police already have the option of asking for Federal Immigration Registration Papers if they suspect those stopped aren't here legally. That's Federal law. The AZ law only changed that to the Local Police being required to ask if they suspect those stopped aren't here legally. Incredibly drastic change, eh?

Are you making the claim that Boehner didn't promote the best R's to chairperson status? If not, how would naming a minority and/or a woman to a chair have been the right decision? Now, if a woman and/or minority was the best candidate and was passed over in favor of a white male, then I'd jump on board with your criticism.

Again we're seeing the Radicals thinking entirely in terms of how to spin their filth to fool the public. These appointments show that 'Deeds, not words' prove the reality on the ground with them. One hopes they keep it up. The GOP is a mad dog which has to be put down.

I don't know about you DesideriScuri, but in my eyes picking someone who doesn't believe in Science to head the Science committee is problematic at best. You'd think there had to be at least someone more qualified somewhere. Upwards of half the population would be "more qualified".

First, at no point in time did I say the most qualified people were chosen. Secondly, if you think the science of man-made Global Warming is settled, you are being naive.

My concern with him is that he believes in Christian Science... and head of the Science Committee?

The leading skeptic with any credibility on the matter declared earlier this year that he and his colleagues review of the data showed that CO2 was the best fit to the data for the cause of global warming. Until some other cause is put forth that fits the data better than CO2 the science is settled.

Which means, it isn't settled. Even if CO2 is the biggest culprit, consider the impact of reducing carbon dioxide use. Dry ice is nothing more than solid CO2. CO2 has been used, very successfully, as a sandblasting media. It is vital for life. We exhale it. I was too bored this morning to change the channel while checking in on my regular sites. The Weather Channel had a story about NASA putting up a satellite that is supposed to document where the CO2 is coming from (and possibly find the area that is absorbing nearly half of all carbon put into the air). Too many "what abouts" exist still.

No, it means that all science is provisional. The current best explanation is the "right" one until contradictory data or a better explanation comes along.

In this case there is no other candidate for the cause of the warming and we know enough about the subject to be extremely confident that we have not overlooked some variable important enough to be a competing cause.

Yea I have to agree with you here...it's not even worth responding to the spin...

No other candidate? Are you saying that CO2 is the only greenhouse gas? It's not even the most powerful candidate, nor the most prevalent! I'm not even sure CO2 precedes warming.

Nowhere is there any indication that anyone has said there are no other candidates.
Nowhere has anyone said that CO2 is the only greenhouse gas.

Someone might give us credible citiations on what is the most powerful or prevalent greenhouse gas if CO2 is not.

You personal unsurity regarding established causality is of no great interest in the scheme of things.

subspaceseven -> RE: The New Revamped GOP (11/30/2012 7:26:08 AM)

Here you go

According to NASA...but some people might not trust NASA, because they feel the earth is older than 6000 years old

http://climate.nasa.gov/causes/

Carbon dioxide (CO2). A minor but very important component of the atmosphere, carbon dioxide is released through natural processes such as respiration and volcano eruptions and through human activities such as deforestation, land use changes, and burning fossil fuels. Humans have increased atmospheric CO2 concentration by a third since the Industrial Revolution began. This is the most important long-lived "forcing" of climate change.

Care to take on Jeb Hensarling (Texas) — Financial Services an explain how the money he received (banks donated more than seven times as much as the next largest industry to Hensarling’s reelection) is not a conflict of interest with creating or destroying reform for the financial markets?

Cause receiving money in no way influences people...or how they vote in Washington...

"Most Important" Greenhouse Gas: Water Vapor
"Strongest": Nitrous Oxide (N2O; 300x more than CO2), Methane (CH4; 21x more than CO2)
"Most Abundant": Water Vapor

This is really going to burn your britches that I knew what I was talking about. Or, are you going to discredit my links, instead?

The CBO has already stated that the Frank-Dodd Bill would not have prevented the recession. Wasn't that the main reason for passing the financial reform bill?!?

I abhor that donations drive policy. That isn't a right or left issue, either. That's a We the People need to stop it, issue. You do know that Wall Street heavily donated to Obama, too, right?

wow so bankers being paid by bankers should make the bills and donating millions to getting elected is no problem cause in your world..the bankers had nothing to do with the WS failure or the trillions Bush gave them......so a person who accepts more money then anyone else from bankers should be the guy who creates the banking rules...cause you think they are all honest...even though several are in jail and under investigations and the GOP is halting investigations into wrongdoing by the banks??????

nice rose colored glasses.....

This is pretty simple, have any other factors changed enough in the last 250 years to account for the observed climate change? No. Therefore there are no other candidates competing for the cause of the warming.

In the future I highly recommend you only interpret the words I wrote not the crazy shit you wish I'd wrote.
