I would have never thought Starbuck would be considered healthy. High caffine, lots of sugar and cream in their drinks should be an obvious clue that it is about a caffine fix, not health.

Then again maybe I am just clueless....

I hate me some Starbucks.  I have yet to have a cup of coffee there that didn't taste like something had died in my mouth.  Down with corporate coffee!  (Except Seattle's Best... that place's coffee is actually palatable.)

Starbucks owns Seattle's Best also.
Where as I do agree that their drip coffee taste like old dish water. I do enjoy my mocha's and latte's. As far as the calories go, hell we all have got to go at sometime. And me I'm going to be sliding into the pearly gates in my fishnets, hip boots, hair wild, whip in one hand and Starbucks in the other saying "What A Ride."

ACK!  Ruin my dream, why don't you?  LOL.

They do carry much better coffee, though.  I like mine black, and if it sucks, then you can really tell.  For the most part I'm faithful to my old place, though, Village Coffeehouse on campus at Purdue.  I managed that place for two years, and if the coffee doesn't get old by drinking it every day repeatedly for that length of time, it's got to be good.

No, fuck that don't drink coffee shit. There's evidence for and against its possible health benefits, but I like to have some coffee at least once a week. But you have to make it right - you must make it yourself. My preference is for a $10-15 italian style espresso maker, see:

http://rikthib.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_rikthib_archive.html

or
http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/instructions/espresso_pot.htm

I have a small and large one of those stove top models in addition to a Krups Il Primo.

You can boil your milk or steam it if you have one of those nozzles as on the Il Primo. And that's where making it yourself comes into play - you don't have to use cream, whole fat milk, 2% milk, 1% milk, you can actually use non-fat milk if you wish. That's gonna save some calories. The Il Primo will actually froth non-fat milk, but I prefer to use 1% fat milk. I sweeten with 50% Splenda and 50% sugar.

I like Kona coffee best, but I don't hate Trader Joe's cheap ass 100% Columbian Supreme either. With the Columbian you cane get a huge tin for just a few bucks.

When I have coffee, I make a 4 shot latte in the biggest fucking mug ever. Yum.

Serve with biscotti from Trader Joe's if you've got one close by, or try LU dark chocolate "Petite Ecolier" cookies. Costco sometimes has quality biscotti in a large plastic container also - my problem is that I prefer a regular choco dipped and stay away from the more exotic flavors.

Oh dang it chaingang. That post of yours was so exciting. My nipples are still hard from reading it. I'm going to have to make sure my next sub is a barista so that I too can have my latte's at home. But you are correct when I have drip at home I do drink Kona blend. I have a friend that has a farm on the Island and I get all sorts of nice fresh gifts.

Dang...a man after my own heart!  I make my own and drink it the same way, Chaingang!  I pass on the sweetner, though, and go heavy on the latte.  LOL  I figure if I skip the sugar I can have the biscotti as a reward!  <good subbie, good girl!!!>  heh heh heh

Sometimes I dust the frothy top with coco or cinnamon or even nutmeg or cardamom.

As for the coffee itself, I find Columbian a bit thin and prefer the likes of Kona.  Generally I buy the good brand of darker-roast that happens to be on sale that week.  I try to stick to organic and ‘shade-grown’ coffees, too.
