Recently I put a bid in on a 9k22 Soviet Era Tunguska Anti-Aircraft vehicle.

I received information detailing the following restrictions on the vehicle and all attached systems.

1) The radar unit was removed.
2) The anti aircraft guns were demilled and made nonoperational
3) the rubber road tracks cleats would not be supplied with the vehicle.

What this means is that the only function the vehicle has is as a 75,000 pound off road vehicle.

Now here is the problem, I have a canceled carry permit, own a nice collection of guns, and if I wanted to, I could get the proper licensing to own automatic weapons such as the M2 fifty cal machine gun.

So the question is, why he hell wont the Federal Government and the ATF allow me to buy an operational anti-aircraft tank. I think that this is an example of unreasonable firearms restrictions.

I completly agree with the OP... i was in the market for a nice little thermonuclear weapon... that pesky ATF & other big government goons had to rain on my parade... I think that this is also an example of unreasonable firearms restrictions.

yes concealed carry permit.

And recently I sold my half ownership in a full sized fully operational replica civil war cannon.

Actually you can purchase surplus warsaw pact and NATO armour, including tanks and apc's the only restrictions are that the weapons are demilled and the targeting systems are removed, which gives you rather large off road vehicles but little else.

For the record, you can purchase surplus ammo for the weapons on these vehicles with the proper licenses, so why not operational weapons for the ammo?

You cannot operate a mobile radar station in the US without a license (and that license is not easy to get).
A pair of operational 30mm chainguns would make the whole vehicle harder to sell becuse most people do not have the appropriate licenses.
The road cleats would not make the thing able to be driven on roads without tearing up the surface, they just reduce the damage. I really doubt you could get the thing to pass an emmissions test anyway. The stock powerplant is a V12 diesel.

Anway what do you want with it? Going to shoot down passing airliners?

Actually the perfect vehicle for dealing with traffic congestion would be a British armoured scout vehicle armed with a 40mm repeating cannon. It would also teach people that cut you off a lesson.

He is just trying to be funny. The government won't allow any "destructive devices" to be sold or imported into the U.S. "For the purposes of the National Firearms Act, the term “Destructive Device” means:

A missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than 1/4 oz.
Any type of weapon by whatever name known which will, or which may readily be converted to expel a projectile, by the action of an explosive or other propellant, the barrel or barrels of which have a bore greater than one-half inch in diameter.
A combination of parts designed and intended for use in converting a device into a destructive device and from which a destructive device can be readily assembled."link

The only way our goverment sells tanks, artillery pieces, etc is demilled...which means it can no longer shoot a projectile.Unless you are a friendly government, then they might sell you weapons. Most buyers for this stuff is scrap dealers, people wanting a static display,or someone parting the parts out to others that use the same weapon systems.I know,my family is involved in the scrap business and have cut up everything from 16 inch battleship gun barrels to Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

You haven't talked to [i.e. greased the palm(s) of] the 'right' person(s), yet.

'hawk

Btw...I hope you meant 'concealed carry', not 'canceled carry'.

So make the transaction in Costa Rica with the right bribes to a couple colonels, take delivery in Mexico with the right bribes at the port, arrange for your "movie prop," to be transported by truck into Canada, and divert the delivery. If you are in the market for that sort of toy, I assume you have appropriate covered parking to keep it from view.

I feel the same way about people who want to own cars that go faster than the federally approved speed limit. I mean, think of the children!

I have found a Mi-24 Hind attack and troop transport helicopter for sale, recently overhauled with full armour.

Actually I was trying to make a point. You cannot buy combat ready vehicles in the US, but with the right licenses, you can own anything from a mac-10 to a minigun that shoots 6000 rounds a minute.

The only thing stopping anyone is price.

Actually, depending on who you believe, such weapons are easy to come by, IF you trust the stuff you get out of russia.
