You have to respect people who try to bring communities in conflict together but I suspect it will have little affect, only hard politics will solve the ME conflict and there is no political will for that amongst the governments that matter, Israel and te USA.

I heard about this over the weelend:
http://www.justvision.org/encounterpoint/about

Encounter Point is an 85-minute feature documentary film that follows a former Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother who risk their lives and public standing to promote a nonviolent end to the conflict. Their journeys lead them to the unlikeliest places to confront hatred within their communities. The film explores what drives them and thousands of other like-minded civilians to overcome anger and grief to work for grassroots solutions. It is a film about the everyday leaders in our midst.
For 2 years, the Just Vision crew followed the stories of ordinary people who feel driven to work for an end to bloodshed and occupation in favor of peace. We traveled from Tel Mond to Tulkarem, from Hebron to Haifa documenting the courageous, painful and moving stories of regular people who refuse to sit back as the conflict escalates. These civic leaders navigate suicide bombings and checkpoints to confront militancy on both sides, the wounded and apathetic masses.

I also heard an interview with 2 of the principals:
Ari and Robi

Uh, the Arab nations, Iran, and the Palestinians are kinda invested in things as well.

The Palestinians want a homeland for their nation. That is not an irrational ambition and should they achieve their ambition there will be peace. In the meantime Israel and the US are doing their best to thwart that ambition.

Arab nations? Arab nations are as varied as European nations. The values and ambitions of the UK are completely different to those of Russia, which are completely different to those of Norway etc etc. To group all Arab countries together is a nonsense, especially when several are little more than US puppets and subjugate their own people to suit the US foreign policy.

Iran will do anything to thwart the USA, they haven't forgot the previous brutal and corrupt regime was a US puppet.

A little ironic the curent regime is just as bad but that is because the previous puppet regime purged Irans liberals and democrats so after the revolution, all there was left was a harsh theocracy.

Probably quite true to some extent. Unfortunately, the notion gives the USA a central position in the Iranian calculations. More than it deserves. I would suggest we not lose sight that Iran (a) considers itself the heir to a proud empire and culture, and (b) is strategically located between the oil fields of the ME and the oil needs of Asia to the east.

I would suggest the presence of Israel and the USA is an impediment to Iran's historical ambition for hegemony in the region. Turkey of course has similar ambitions, I would imagine. Would you agree that Iran is not primarily motivated by vengence against the USA?

I agree Iran's primary motivation is not vengeance against the USA but Iran's defence in a region where hostile powers have nukes. ie. Israel, Russia, Pakistan and India. it has already had a costly war wit Iraq it didn't start. Iran's worries are legitimate.

The US and Europe's interest in Iran is oil, it is not necessary for them to want Iranian oil to be interested in it, it is maintaining the world supply and so a reasonable oil price.

A valid point that we seldom hear about in the West. At least not this far west, where Iran is totally demonized along with the Palestinians.

Why do you sympathize with Iran but not with Israel, which has the identical situation you described?

Iran aren't oppressing anyone but their own people, while Israel is not only oppressing the Palestinian people but stealing their land, while affectively having created a prison camp called Gaza and modern day Indian reservations in the West Bank.

Thirty years ago I did support Israel thinking it was all the fault of the viscious Palestinians but my mind started to change when I first visited Israel and Israel's actions over that time have convinced me they are the problem because it seems clear to me, Israel doesn't want peace because it will thwart their ambitions for a greater Israel.

BTW Have you noticed all the contemporary problems in the ME stem from western interference, double dealing and back stabbing and supportin brutal regimes which oppress their own people? There is no Iranian or Arabs shooting at me as I walk down my high street but so many in the ME live under constant threat of western attack since WWI and the fall of the Ottoman empire. The west should keeps its nose out and America should bring its ally to heal, rather than let Israel lead the west into another war for its own colonial ambitions.
