This was just posted on MSNBC:

quote:

Updated 12:44 p.m. - South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, an influential Republican who has helped prod his party rightward, will step down from his seat in January to become the next director of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

Thank heaven for small favors! That fanatic has done enough harm to this country already. Don't let the door hit you in the ass, Jimbo.

Leave it to a Republican to find a way to undermine the goverment without having to be accountible or responsible doing so. The Heritage Foundation isnt the 'happy, wonderful, sunshine' organization its website and PR make it out to be. Those are the folks that have been helping to undermine the US's ability to reach 'deficit neutral' on the budget. So Mr. DeMint is leaving, or is he....'leaving' (i.e. staying behind in the bushes of goverment and STILL trying to undermine it)?

Be interesting to see who his replacement is.

Can we at least HOPE for a moderate Republican statesman with a brain?

Are there any left at this point? I thought they'd all been quietly disposed of when the Kenyan was elected and replaced with drooling fuckwits.

There's a few left moon. The problem is the TEAliban has been trying to get rid of them and marginalize them.

Maybe the fact that there is a Dem majority in the senate will make the SC governor look for that kind of person. One who can make deals and get the other side to give a little in return for support.

I doubt Nikki Haley will appointment someone the Dems can work with, Hell she might even give herself the job

With her low ratings (40%) She maybe thinking she just might not win a second term and her traveling for Willard had many in her state thinking she cares more about her stardom in the GOP then actually running the state

I do think GOP leadership is glad to see him go, the only thing which would be worse is Haley herself taking the job or she appoints Joe Wilson, gee then he can Boo more while in DC, he has become a teabagger favorite since his low level act during the State of the Union address

It makes you wonder why we even have a Tea Party. I mean what's up with these people ? They're against all these Kool things government does like debasing all you own by printing worthless money and putting it into the stream of commerce. They appose giving away half the tax dollars government collects despite provisions in the constitution to the contrary. Maybe it's all these wars to keep the military industrial complex busy. Maybe there's parts of the Patriot Act that's Kool too like letting federal agents write their own search warrents.

If you appose all that shit, how can you be moderate ?

Well, since they oppose it for the ignorant public rhetorically but then double down on it in the voting, I don't know why they have them.  They look like typically fiscally irresponsible, inept and unknowledgeable republicans to me.

I agree MN.

How did the republicans ever earn the title "fiscally responsible" in the first place. All the debt does under republican leadership is go up and up and...

And some people wonder why the Tea Party is trying to run some of these guys out.

Edited to add, the debt goes up and up and up under the democrats too, especially our current president.

When the TEA PARTY first emerged, I had really high hopes for them.
When the religious nutbags took over and turned them into the TEAliban. Well, the rest is just another sad damn chapter in the crumbling of the GOP and the rise of the Religious Fundies that replaced them in using the (R).

So what do ya do ? I get it but I look at it as fiscal issues being the priority. The democrats in their actions and rhetoric are not going to stop trying to bankrupt us. The republicans or at least as far as many of them go, their actions don't match the rhetoric. I ignore the religious shit because I don't see it working its way into legislation. I mean what the hell, let them pray, it can't hurt.

Maybe the Kenyan would have got somewhere trying to get the economy back under control if it hadn't been for the GOP elements of the Congress blocking everything he's tried since he was elected, of course.

Blocking humongous spending increases is what republicans were elected to do. Too bad they were not entirely successful.
