My son came up with a solution when he was young... install breathalyzers on every car... mandatory... with a kill switch for disabling.

For the first time in all of human history....I concur.

X's 9 billion quintillion.

(No kill switch).

That would be funny.

I like that idea.

Scene - teacher with back turned to the class as she writes on the chalkboard....
lil johnny decided it might be fun to throw his gum at the teacher and it sticks against the chalkboard....
"Alright class, who did that? Who threw their gum? No one wants to respond?, fine, the whole class will not have recess today."

Why should every person who has never driven drunk be subjected to a breathalyzer before they take the wheel?

Classic case of guilty until proven innocent.

People who know how to drive are subjected to the driving test every certain number of years: in order to prove that they know how to drive. To prove that their presence on the road does not endanger others.

I'm okay with that. Driving is not a right, but a privilege.

The kill switch would be used to prevent the engine from engaging.

That's 1 reason why America is losing their freedoms every day. We are choosing to convict all for the sake of some.

No, case of proving you havent. If you havent, you have nothing to fear. Being sober should be a requirement to drive a vehicle, along with insurance, a driver's license, passing a driver's test.. ect ect ect.

Like Pam said.. its not a right.

Well, for the record, I'm against Americans losing the freedom to do anything that they have a right to do.

How can subjecting everyone to prove they are not drunk before taking the wheel, not be a presumption of everyone is drunk that takes the wheel? It screams that you must prove you are NOT drunk. It screams that you must PROVE you are innocent.

Hello Aswad. Always a pleasure.

Thank you for sharing this link. No, it wasn't pleasant, but I wish more people would see it.

I've never had to take another driving test (except to add endorsements like motorcycle/big trucks) since I was first issued a driving license way back when.  Not even when I've transferred my license to a new state!

Really? I've had to re-take the written test.

Is driving a right? No. I can think of many professions, including driving, that requires a drug test periodically.

By what right does anyone have to get behind the wheel of a car drunk?

Why should we have to wait till after someone like in the video wakes up totally disabled to find out that the other person who hit her had something to drink?

Someone who is drinking and driving is taking away MY right to be as safe as possible on the road.

You want to scream about rights? Scream about the rights of that girl.

I haven't.  Hand in the old license, get issued the new one (or the temp until the new hard copy one is mailed to me).  Once I get to the counter, I can't remember the last time it took more than 15 minutes for the exchange to be done. No tests.

Jealous.

LadyPact -> RE: Drunk driving viral vid (12/8/2012 1:42:24 AM)

Pffft. I'm literally sitting here with the driver's license that I had from three states and moves ago. I've had it longer than I've been married to MP. It doesn't expire until 2014.
