She's right. The GOP has been intent on committing suicide for years, and is continuing that. The political realities are: 1. The GOP's strategy has been obstructionism since Obama was elected. The public perception of them as The Party of No has sunk in. 2. Obama's claim is that his reelection is a mandate to raise taxes on the rich. My take is that public sentiment is indeed behind him. 3. The public believes that the GOP is more to blame for a possible stalemate/cliff dive than Obama. The GOP needs to learn how to negotiate, past just a simple binary of saying no, or caving. They've been talking for years about how the wealthy are "job creators" and have stubbornly stuck to that despite Democratic PR (and reality) to the contrary. If they negotiated different tax rates for those people who start up and grow businesses (i.e., REAL job creators) and those who simply live off trust funds and those who have stockbroker/high level management/MD jobs, they could state that they have the economy's best interests at heart and are continuing their policy of rewarding job creators.
