Actually, the history is quite clear, you can use the pot plant to make rope, paper, and if you crush the oil out of it, you can make a pretty good biofuel.

History perhaps but today, if you cant even make it legal to grow hemp for paper, food products, etc, then what kind of chance do you have to make the hard stuff legal for that (supposed) purpose? not to mention, if those things were made with real pot, the US govt wouldnt even allow it to be imported into the US.. no one in their right mind would grow real pot to make rope or oil, etc.. even the legal importation of hemp is a fairly recent event.. Its just another example of the US govt outsourcing jobs to China (which is the worlds largest producer)..

Look into the connection between William Randolph Hearst and the criminalization of marijuana. His problem was that he was a heavy investor in the timber industry because of his Newspaper empire and the need for paper. Marijuana was a cheaper source of pulp needed to make paper.

Dont believe me, check it out for yourself.

I know all about that, and the cotton industry too found hemp fabric a "threat" to them.. all of that is why it became illegal and why the US govt is nutz to keep it illegal.. but that is exactly what they are gonna do, no matter what the states do, no matter that they make fairly harmless pot smokers criminals (that are a cash cow for the prison industry)..

I dunno, there are aspects of the US that I can not tolerate.. its a country that shoots itself in the foot on so many issues, the fighting between the Rs & Ds, political corruption, turning into a police state, taking away civil liberties, States vs the Feds, bailing out banksters instead of throwing them in jail, etc, etc.. which makes it not a very attractive country to me... The US could do so much better than it does, all I can do is shake my head..

I do believe that the American population would be living on water and some sort of algae protein, and even then I am not sure.

and that algae would no doubt be genetically engineered by Monsanto! [:D]

Even the air we breathe every day is bad for our health due to the general pollution.. [X(]

Actually I think that the Federal government will decriminalize marijuana when the promise of the possible tax revenues outweighs the cost of enforcing laws that many LEO's think are stupid, unofficially of course.

I mean it costs more to enforce marijuana laws than it would generate if legalized.

Pot smokers are not known for violence, robbery, burglary or any other serious crime to support their habit. I mean, pot is the cheapest illegal drug available.

A man comes home from work. Puts away his groceries and pulls out 2 two liters of mountain dew and some Cheetos and cookies. Breaks out out two thc lollypops out of his 6 pack. Watches tv and laugh his high ass off until he falls asleep.

Much as they found out in prohibition, they can't fight the majority of the states. And many are tired of putting people in jail for marijuana possession.

tj444 -> RE: The winds of change have a funny smell (12/14/2012 7:59:43 AM)

I disagree.. it should be legal but the Feds are the Feds and they will keep throwing pot smokers in jail, no matter what LEOs personally think or the various States do.. And the govt has done a good job of brainwashing the majority of voters and sucked them into believing in the War on Drugs..

Its an issue that does not personally affect me tho (since I dont partake) so what happens or doesnt happen doesnt really concern me.. I have my opinions but thats it..

Prohibition is a more apt analogy than many: aren't your country's (ludicrously draconian) drugs laws largely the work of former liquor enforcers who were desperate to find a new gig when the Volstead act was repealed?

In part, it absolutely was a jobs program. It really escalated under Nixon, though, as a way to criminalize the youth culture of the late 60's, which was scaring the hell out of old people.

jlf1961 -> RE: The winds of change have a funny smell (12/14/2012 7:09:18 PM)

Alright, instead of legalizing pot, might I suggest REAL Absinthe?

TheHeretic -> RE: The winds of change have a funny smell (12/14/2012 7:21:30 PM)

Yuch! I fucking hate licorice!

jlf1961 -> RE: The winds of change have a funny smell (12/14/2012 9:18:53 PM)

Heretic, you sir are a man lacking in good taste and the finer things in life.

But then in reality I would prefer to have a good 100 year old scotch.

Yeah, but I have gotten used to you disagreeing with me. I dont do change very well. I am still pissed off about the development and introduction of electronic ignition, how long ago was that?

As far as I know it is legal. I bought some off the Internet a few years ago. From a new York liquor store.

Actually, it is not. The Absinthe sold in the United States actually has the Thujone filtered out of it. Thujone is banned from food and consumables by the FDA.

quote:

Thujone is believed to trigger inexplicable transformations in the mind. For over two centuries, absinthe drinkers have reported perplexing shifts in sensory perception, as well as extreme clarity of thought and vast improvement in cognitive and creative abilities. It is unclear, however, why thujone affects the mind in this way, or even if thujone alone is responsible for these remarkable absinthe effects.

To this day, modern science has failed to provide any comprehensive answers, even though scientists had documented the effects of thujone by 1916. Recent research did confirm one thing: the alpha-thujone found in absinthe causes "CNS cholinergic receptor binding activity" in the brain, which, scientists claim, improves the brain's cognitive functions. This will come as no surprise to practitioners of natural medicine, who have long prescribed thujone-rich wormwood for the improvement of thinking and memory.

Thus the absinthe in the US is basically the "decaf" version of the drink.
