My point, boi, is that no matter what the number is... and there will have to be a number... the argument that someone making 1 dollar over that amount will be tossed into a hugher tax bracket is just a scare tactic.

Reagan actually had the largest tax increase since 1968, after a cut that put the country into a tailspin.

Then, why are we praising Obama tax increase program now? There is no sign the real rich will be suffering. Apple paid last year 2% taxes on their foreign profits.
Destroying the middle class and the remaining of the economy seems to be the plan.
It is a bad cop (Boehner) - good cop (Obama) game. After they will get the taxes increased the to men get together for beer and laugh their asses off. Wasn't it just a few days ago the Senate (voting 98:0) approved over 600 billion military spending?
Obamanoids or Obamabots are an interesting segment of the society. Every time Obama name is brought up they will get high and they loose their logical critical thinking ability. The fact is Obamanomics (bailouts, zero interest for select few, never-ending stimulus or in other words feeding the corpse) has failed. Why should we expect the next four years will be different: dig in and prepare for suffering.

Why is that? I bet you know the answer. I do. Educate everyone.

tazzy, many have opinions and it's easy to criticize and judge or even blame President Obama.

We all know that President Obama did not create this fiscal mess that has been accelerating rapidly for at least 20+ years, I am glad that at this point he doesn't appear to be interested into throwing the middle class under the bus, most of us are struggling to make ends meet as it is.

Raising taxes on the struggling working poor and working poor/ middle class would do nothing, except cause more people to need assistance.

I have no idea what the answer IS, but I know what the answer ain't!

Peace

Corporations that pay taxes to other countries can, legally, take a deduction for that money against their US taxes... dollar for dollar.

Here is a thoughtful opinion by the former assistant treasury secretary:

Far from being 'thoughtful,' just another diatribe in one of many efforts to deflect attention from corporate welfare.

Unless and until you fuckwits get on board with that, then just STFU and quit bothering us.

Writing comments like this demonstrates that there is something not quite right with you.

I think you need to have some sort of substance abuse rehab/psychological testing/or anger management at the very least.

And?

You do understand that the hikes for a person making 251,000 would only affect 1,000.

I cringe whenever somebody says that Obama wants to keep taxes low for 98% of Americans. In actually, he wants to keep taxes low for all Americans on the first $250,000 earned. There is a huge perceptual difference.

And I have no issue with that.None at all,it is the other, more domestic, accounting bullshit loophole practices that need closing.

As of this afternoon, when House Speaker Bowles states that there was progress being made.

Speaker Bowles mentioned that the President's proposal to cut 350 Billion to Medicare, was not enough.
350 Billion is not enough?

Hummmmm, most will be watching the let's make a deal/fiscal cliff drama continue this week.

Speaker Bowles said progress is being made on the fiscal cliff

I find it sorta funny how Bowles quickly distanced himself when Boehner presented the "Bowles plan"

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) sent a letter to the White House with a transparently ridiculous debt-reduction offer, claiming it was based on the work of Erskine Bowles, the former Clinton White House chief of staff who helped lead the unsuccessful Simpson-Bowles Commission. Within a couple of hours, Bowles issued a statement effectively telling the Republican leader he knows nothing of Bowles' work.

"While I'm flattered the Speaker would call something 'the Bowles plan,' the approach outlined in the letter Speaker Boehner sent to the President does not represent the Simpson-Bowles plan, nor is it the Bowles plan. In my testimony before the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, I simply took the mid-point of the public offers put forward during the negotiations to demonstrate where I thought a deal could be reached at that time.

"The Joint Select Committee failed to reach a deal, and circumstances have changed since then."

In other words, Bowles opposes the "Bowles plan," or at least John Boehner's manipulation of it. I suspect the Speaker hoped to capitalize on the credibility "Simpson Bowles" enjoys with the Beltway establishment, but that clearly failed once the co-chair of the debt commission was able to speak up for himself.

More politics as usual.
