With SCOTUS taking up gay marriage a though occured to me. There are issues, mainly social, that are albatrosses around their necks. Supremes decide gay marriage and the GOP can just wring their hands but get back to being the the intelligent counter to the far left so we can get back the.middle and actually begin dealing with the actual issues we need to deal with.

There are two.... California's.....

The Supreme Court has several options in reviewing the decision. It could reverse it, leaving California’s ban on same-sex marriage in place. It could affirm it on the narrower theory, which would allow same-sex marriage in California but not require it elsewhere. Or it could address the broader question of whether the Constitution requires states to allow such marriages.

And the Federal....

The second case the court agreed to hear, United States v. Windsor, No. 12-307, challenges a part of the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996. Section 3 of the law defines marriage as between only a man and a woman for the purposes of more than 1,000 federal laws and programs. (Another part of the law, not before the court, says that states need not recognize same-sex marriages from other states.)

The case concerns two New York City women, Edith Windsor and Thea Clara Spyer, who married in 2007 in Canada. Ms. Spyer died in 2009, and Ms. Windsor inherited her property. The 1996 law did not allow the Internal Revenue Service to treat Ms. Windsor as a surviving spouse, and she faced a tax bill of about $360,000 that a spouse in an opposite-sex marriage would not have had to pay.

We could see very narrow rulings... or a massive one settling the decision completely.

It would be nice if Democrats and Republicans ever learned to just STFU and listen to people who actually know what they're talking about.

The next SEC Chair and especially the next Fed Chair are going to be huge choices.

If it were up to me, anybody wearing their blue or red underwear should be excluded from the process.

It didn't work that way with abortion...and this is really more of a survivorship issue and recognition of survivorship rights involving a gay marriage. I'm not so sure that even if they make a decision that concludes that gay marriages(think palimony) include survivorship rights that it extends to overall recognition.

I do understand your wish... I will wish with you...but there are some people in both parties who’s only job is to think up hot points to bring up at the proper time to sway elections...And even the enlightened, I like that term lately…lol, …are influenced sometimes.

And why would that wing stop being neanderthals ?
Just because The Court has spoken, someone else(Hi Mark, lol screwed that up a bit, lol) pointed out that it didn't work like that with Roe v Wade...so why now ?

If anything, a SCOTUS ruling legalizing gay marriage will only goad them on to greater efforts to undercut gay rights through nit-picking procedural regulations, much like they've done with abortion. Abortion is legal in this country, but there are whole states where it isn't available due to the fanatics. Gay marriage won't be any different. The only way to insure anyone's rights is for this current crop of 'Neanderthals' to become extinct, like their predecessors.

Following that logic won't there simply be a new group of neanderthals ?

'fraid so, until we grow up as a society.

Sad but so they seem to eat it up though... at least 49 percent of the voting population anyway.
