as with anything, nothing will stop those who want to use, and abuse substances. smoking is a prime example. i've got friends and family that have watched family members die of smoking related deseases. it didn't stop them from starting smoking.

These complilations would be even more stark if it was possible to include a photo of the individual, prior to their start of use. They have already been using long enough for the first arrest in these, "before" mug shots.

Not to hijack, since there is already a drug legaization thread over in P&R, but if methamphetamine was manufactured properly, instead of with the hellbroth of substitute pre-cursors, the physical toll on the users would be considerably lessened.

Evil, evil, stuff, and extremely addictive.

That's about the saddest thing I've ever seen. Breaks my heart to think about their families.
Christ, all those broken hopes and dreams

I live in colorado, legalizing drugs doesn't make them better, or safer or less addictive. I know teens with red cards legally allowed to blaze up at school for their ADD, back pain, phobias & other stuff that makes me just shake my head. More than one person I know when told I wasn't eating much because of severe digestive disease recommended various pot edibles to "fix my illness" even after being told just the smell causes asthma attacks. Lmao but they have a pot for that too.grrrrRrr

The (too) graphic text doesn't specifically explain the changes to the eye. Is it just constant pupil restriction/dilation from the drugs, or does the eye color get lighter for some reason? Does anyone know?

theRose4U -> RE: Well, this oughta stop anyone with a brain from doing meth: (12/9/2012 9:54:52 PM)

If I recall correctly, the lightening of the pupil preceeds the yellowing of the eye itself as jaundice (liver damage) sets in.

I hate to say it but.. a few of the pics look like "morgue" shots.. maybe they got to rehab a little too late..

the 30 yr old puffy white faced girl.. that one is soooo.. ewwww

I wonder what the rate of recovery for meth is.. I would guess not very good at all..

I would never date anyone that did drugs (any harder than pot & that only if it was occasional use, or true medical use).. that would be a deal breaker for me.. I told my first boyfriend that.. I am not strong enough, I would not be able to handle someone that was addicted.. I would have to walk away..

We have one of these posters in our court; it also has pics of where some of the junkies had dug holes in their arms, because the thought there were bugs under the skin.

It never fails to get attention, which is its purpose.

Aswad -> RE: Well, this oughta stop anyone with a brain from doing meth: (12/10/2012 2:37:27 AM)

It oughta stop anyone with a brain from continuing the war on drugs, at least.

As for actually doing meth, it comes down to how you use it. Food can be a bad thing if you use it the wrong way. One of the problems here is that these people are doing huge quantities of it. Comparing a starting dose of 5mg for legitimate use, or 15-50mg recreational use in the non-habituated population, to doses of up to 500mg for a heavy abuser, is not exactly trivial. If you increase from 3 units of alcohol (enough for a buzz for some) to 30~100 units (comparable increase), you die. Meth just doesn't kill you as quickly when you overuse it as alcohol will (and there's more adaptation).

In chronic meth abusers, studies indicate the causal chain of their problems doesn't begin with the meth. In fact, as far as I know, only alcohol has a demonstrated causal effect on the well known life outcome expectancy degeneration one sees in chronic abuse. Improving the quality of the drugs and legalizing their use would seem to be a worthwhile stopgap measure to improve the problems associated with meth use, but the real effort has to be put into fixing the antecedent problems that are causative, not the symptomatic meth abuse, which is just one more sad step down a long and winding path that usually started somewhere else entirely.

IWYW,
— Aswad.

Wow, it ages people quick.

absolutchocolat -> RE: Well, this oughta stop anyone with a brain from doing meth: (12/10/2012 4:38:05 PM)

aswad's right. honestly, people anyone with severe problems can self-medicate with just about any substance. i think the key is to figure out why you do drugs in the first place.

I have no idea what that infomercial might have been selling, Lookie, but it's a bullshit number. Here's a decent piece on the subject.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3076519/ns/us_news-only/t/beating-addiction-meth/

I know people who went down that road. Some are fine and dandy today, some ain't never coming back. Chances are extremely good that some produce you've had in the house in the last few weeks got to the store courtesy of a trucker who needed a little, "go," to make his appointment at the dock door.

You'll note from the article that the method of use makes a tremendous difference in how the user is affected, both short term, and long term.
