There is an Intelligence Institute... not sure how hard snopes looked. http://www.intelligence-institute.com/index.html Having said that... That’s because the spokesman for the study, someone who goes by the “name” of “P. Nichols,” didn’t have compelling answers about its legitimacy. When discussing that topic by phone moments ago with the Erik Wemple Blogger, he noted, “We did not submit it for peer review with the APA.” What’s the “APA?” I asked. “I think it’s the American Psychiatric or Psychological Association,” he said. Pressed further about what sort of association would peer-review such a study, Nichols came up empty. “Off the top of my head right now, I don’t know,” he said. As the Huffington Post notes, this bit of non-research managed to score a spot on PRWeb as well as some links on a few Web sites. Nothing major, though. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2012/12/10/alleged-study-on-fox-news-withers-under-scrutiny/ Continuing... PRWEB.com is a service that blasts out press releases for pay. That gives the news blurb some credibility. The problem is, the press release is not detectable doing a search of PRweb. And There are a number of problems with this. The phone number is one used for spam. The link to email information does not at all make it clear what information is being requested. Searching PRWEB.com does not find the text used in the article. Searching three sites that use intelligence institute in their domain name does not find any page with the words Fox News. The link to more info does not provide more info on the study. I show a link to a huffingtonpost article that reported that fox news viewers are the least informed. So, the reports of the stupidity of Fox News viewers are a hoax. That doesn't make the claims of the hoax wrong, just the proof is not there as reported. Bottom-line, it was tempting to run the story as others reported it. It's not as much fun to be a downer, reporting that it's wrong. But hopefully, doing the extra work WILL make a difference to our readers when it comes to trusting Opednews as a source of news that actually can be trusted. http://www.opednews.com/articles/Hoax-Portrays-Fox-News-VIe-by-Rob-Kall-121209-653.html Just goes to show that even the most trusted media sources can screw up.
