Now, I know there will be many responses from people rolling their eyes and going, thats just a cry for attention, ignore it! Well, of course its a cry for attention! I'm not an idiot ... But ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away ... I feel for this person, whoever they are, if this is genuine ...

Write and tell him you want the cat. Does not matter where you live. He comes out and states he wants to get to know the owner over the next month. Quote "Whoever thinks they are interested, please be an extremely patient person and be willing to get to know him, he is fabulous but he has to warm up to you. He would be perfect for a single person who needs a friend. I wish that I didn't have to die. " So be a humanitarian and help the guy. Though, more often than not..people don't plan suicide they just commit it on a whim. People who commit suicide also don't think of the others around them like planning for the future of their loved ones. Don't think he wants suicide but he does need a person to talk to.

I can't take the cat ... I got a new kitten of my own a couple weeks ago but I will write and see if he wants to talk ... People who plan suicide usually don't share their plans with others but as a fellow animal lover, I guess I could see myself trying to find a good home for my pets first so they wouldn't be left to the winds ... It was just shocking to see it written like that.

It is shocking to see a cry out so loudly. Just hope someone has answered him. Many years ago when I had roommates I had one commit suicide. I was sitting on the sofa going over some files for work. She walked in the front door. I said hello..she responded. Went right to her room. It was around 10pm at that point so I assumed she went to bed. Got up and went to work early am. I did. By the time I had gotten home she had offed herself. about 200 tylenols and sleeping pills. I found a half written note and her cats freaked out in the bedroom with her. She had actually called the suicide hotline according to them she never said a word though. I became a suicide crisis counselor after that for a short time. They seemed to think I just had it in me. Over all of the suicides and attempted ones I have dealt with over the years....nobody plans. Nobody thinksof those they are leaving behind. It is all just self absorbed behavior. Hey, my life sucks and I haven't offed myself. All of our lives suck at times.

When I was in high school I would plan out these very long detailed ways of killing myself ... I was a very morbid kid, I guess. I tried on more occassions than I can count but its like when the evil villian starts doing his monologue ... My plans were always so complex that they failed. Sometimes I was caught, sometimes I just got lucky ... I do agree with you that suicide is a very selfish act and the person doing it doesn't think of other people but pets are different. Why do we have pets? A lot of us have them because of the unconditional love a pet will give ... It doesn't matter if you're fat, have a huge zit on your nose, smell funny, dress weird, have obnoxious table manners; your dog or cat will love you anyway. Hell, they'll probably join in on the table manners thing and they find your weird smell comforting and homey! So I dont know ... I can see it being real ... But I also see the cry for help ... I emailed him. We'll see what happens.

I have been in that state myself and tryed hard to find ways out but my state of mind blocked some of the most obvious ways to help. My luck was a friend who straight out asked if I was contemplating suicide. I felt a pang of relief and answered yes. She took me to the hospital and they helped me get back on my feet. This was years ago and now I have a happy family, my own self made livelyhood and a life I never could have seen at that time. Thank Goddess my friend asked and then did not say "You are just self absorbed, my life sucks to and I haven't offed myself" that would just have added to the negative thoughts my brain was so good at distributing and fostering.

In many states- one can be held for 72 hours of observation..... I dont know about NC. Yes- there are unhappy people out there. A botched suicide can be hell tho...

When I thought about killing myself I had it planned. I was in a group home so not much I could plan really, but i I wrote goodbye notes I knew when every one but one person a staff would be gone. I knew how I wanted to do it. Fortunatly I took so long to get on with it every one came home and I did not have the privacy to try to hang myself. I saw my room mate dangling from her closet though. We were all home and We were all in the tv room sept her and I got cold so I went to my room for a sweater and she was there in the closet turning purple. I darted out of the room yelling as I went christy's hanging in the closet she's hung herself. She didn't die thankfully, but she had belt abrasions for about a month, which one of the staff always teased her about.

I agree with Lilith, people do plan their suicides. They sort out their bits - and close all open doors. My friend went around to all his closest friends the week before he died. Said goodbye, even left his bits and pieces with people. How long it takes to occur, doesn't have anything to do with it. After speaking to professionals - how it is done says alot more than whether it is planned or not. There is a self absorbtion, but it is just the focus - once the decision is made creates a kind of tunnel vision. It isn't to do with ego. Peace and Rapture

UNDERSTANDING AND HELPING THE SUICIDAL PERSON Be Aware of the Warning Signs Are you or someone you love at risk of suicide? Get the facts and take appropriate action. Get help immediately by contacting a mental health professional or calling 1-800-273-8255 for a referral should you witness, hear, or see anyone exhibiting any one or more of the following: Someone threatening to hurt or kill him/herself, or talking of wanting to hurt or kill him/herself. Someone looking for ways to kill him/herself by seeking access to firearms, available pills, or other means. Someone talking or writing about death, dying or suicide, when these actions are out of the ordinary for the person.
