Syrian regime approaching collapse, NATO chief says

The Russians are saying the same thing.

We are going to rue the fall of Syria.

Outside of the general "Muslims are scary" suppositions.....how so?

Because failed states are breeding grounds for problems and Syria is going to overthrow Assad and decend into ethnic and religious rivalries. The best we can hope for is the urban Sunni's take over but as Egypt shows, rxtremists tend to win. A chaotic Syria with a Sunni majority in power is a fertile ground for Al Queda.

And that is the BEST option!

And in some cases....."successful" states are worse than the alternative.Like with Syria and Libya.

I sure darn wish that north Korea wasn`t as successful, for as long as they have been. They are like the present day stalinists.....with almost as many bodies buried.

North korea will be about as failed as east germany...

FR,

So long as the replacement government is validly chosen by the people, we should have zero say in it.

So you think Israel was wrong not to recognize Hammas? Or will be okay if Syria chooses Al Queda for its leadership?

I can't say that Hamas' election was or was not valid, so I can't support or refute Israel's choice. If Syrians decide that al Qaeda is their choice, then, al Qaeda is the ruling government. It is not up to me (or the US), to decide if freely elected governments are okay or not. Simply look at our history in the ME and see how our "choices" for their governments have panned out. Might be interesting to see how the ME reshapes without our meddling.
