"Any sufficiently advanced Technology is indistinguishable from Magic."

-- Arthur C Clark, visionary author, co-screenwriter of "2001: a Space Odyssey," and inventor of the geosynchronous earth satellite.

Do you plan to live thirty years - to see 2039? If so, you might very well live to see 2139, because amazing, literally incredible advances in technology lie just beyond The Singularity projected by many in 3 or 4 decades.

How would Aristotle, or Leonardo daVinci or Elizabeth I or Isaac Newton have fared, even survived in the 21st Century?

So, if you think it's funny that folks born B.P.C. (before personal computers) are challenged by texting, mousing, iPods and Today's technology, just take this little test to find out how YOU will fare in a coming world Indistinguishable from Magic?

Your result for "Surviving The Singularity" Test ...

Ready for Rennaisance

35/60 Acquired Aptitude, 32/60 Active Adaptability and 27/60 Affirmative Attitude!

You are reaching but ready for reality to remake itself, learning while earning you spurs as you surf, not hip to the latest but trying and buying a bit of the tricks and the tools of the tech... and it's fun but frustrating when loading and waiting for things to be Flashed in far more than a flash and... oh, can I get that back from Trash? I'm trying, but it's trying, so I'm sighing rather than just lying down and taking it.
At 35/60 Aptitude, you're just edging up to the Event Horizon, while with 32/60 Adaptability, you're a bit Tense about The Transition, but with an Adequately Affirmative Attitude of 27/60, you've only to Meditate More to Merge Meaningfully with the Multiverse! You may need more vivid and vital visits to the virtual world, perhaps a collegial companion in complex cyberspace, and on The Net, a sensible screen name and appropriate avatar when you travel beyond "the Meat World."

YOU CAN FIND THE FUTURE!

--------------------------------------

Wow! Beyond the meat market! Do they know me or what?

Apparently also ready for reinassance but smarter than the average bear

Unless you're already uploaded, homo quantum, just playing homo sap for GRINs (that's Genetics, Robotics, Information and Nanotechnology) -- you're NEO the ONE in The Matrix of Mind, you're Mad Max Headroom or both intertwined, multi-threaded and -processed and, just to be kind, kinda nice to the humans left so far behind. THANX!

You're Already Over the Event Horizon at 53/60 Aptitude, Truly Tripped out for The Transition at 56/60 Adaptability and Mind-Mapped for Mnemonic Upload at 52/60 Attitude!
You're a virtual veteran, a cyber-sorcerer, and on The Net more entities know you by your avatar and screen name than Mere Mortals in The Meat World.

You Multi-task like a Mac: maximum overdirve; You Love like Linux: lots o'Lovin' and LOL;You Vanish like Vista: when the Fun has Finally Flown; You Crash like Windows: only when the Partyin's past.

YOU ARE THE FUTURE!

The trouble was i agreed but i knew that was the wrong answer.

Phew. Considering I failed the zombie one dramatically, this is reassuring. So long as the zombies don't rise until 2040 or later, I'll be ok.

Quite so. I probably shouldn't have said all of the above there.

I got "Prematurely Post-Human 51/60 Acquired Aptitude, 50/60 Active Adaptability and 47/60 Affirmative Attitude!", but then that was more a load of extropian cliches based on '90s SF than a questionnaire with anything difficult in it, as Aylee has pointed out already.

To most people, technology is indistinguishable from magic anyway. They have no idea of what goes on in their smartphone or under the hood of their car or what makes the lights come on when they flip the switch, and the majority of them emphatically don't care. If they operate the microwave oven with pixie dust and chants it would just be another user interface. Though they'd probably complain about having to memorize the chants.

A friend of mine once said, "There are two kinds of people - those who never think about what goes on inside the box, and those who can't stand not to know." Or, basically, the difference between magic and engineering.

You're missing the third group (which appears to be the group that questionnaire was aimed at): people who can't bear to admit that they don't understand how stuff works, and will try to bluff their way into feigning a grasp of scientific theory by memorising fragments of technobabble that might as well be written in ancient Greek rather than their own language for all that they actually understand of the screeds they're trotting out parrot fashion. People who aren't interested in how things work so long as they do work are arguably a problem, but as a rule they're a lot less irritating than this type of cargo cultist.
