ORIGINAL: tazzygirl From Bowles.... Erskine Bowles While I'm flattered the Speaker would call something "the Bowles plan," the approach outlined in the letter Speaker Boehner sent to the President does not represent the Simpson-Bowles plan, nor is it the Bowles plan. In my testimony before the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, I simply took the mid-point of the public offers put forward during the negotiations to demonstrate where I thought a deal could be reached at that time. The Joint Select Committee failed to reach a deal, and circumstances have changed since then. It is up to negotiators to figure out where the middle ground is today. Every offer put forward brings us closer to a deal, but to reach an agreement, it will be necessary for both sides to move beyond their opening positions and reach agreement on a comprehensive plan which avoids the fiscal cliff and puts the debt on a clear downward path relative to the economy. http://www.momentoftruthproject.org/publications/bowles-statement-speaker-boehners-letter-president Honestly, the man who gave the testimony himself states it isnt his plan that was offered and states "circumstances have changed". How much clearer do you need it to be? Um, since you didn't provide a link at all, and only made a non-cited claim, it wasn't clear at all. You made a claim and posted a link that didn't include any part of your claim. quote:

Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act NOTE: In May, the House passed the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act (H.R. 5652) to replace the scheduled sequestration cuts aimed at the Department of Defense and non-defense spending with responsible spending cuts and reforms. The bill will produce savings of $243 billion over 10 years http://politicalnews.me/?id=16452 Already a law, already not enough. quote:
The 2012 House GOP budget Ryan's plan. http://budget.house.gov/fy2012budget/ quote:
Ryan’s idea is to eventually move Medicare toward private insurance companies by giving people a set amount to buy their own health insurance plans. The new system would be for people who are under age 55 now, and it would give them voucher-like credits to buy traditional fee-for-service Medicare or competing private insurance plans. (The credits are sometimes called "premium support.") Thats not a plan... thats insane. Now, where are the actual cuts? Wait, you are arguing that what is current law (sequestration) can't be included? Better tell Pelosi. And, the cuts are there, whether you think they are insane or not. And, they are there, regardless of whether they can be attributed to Erskine Bowles or not. You don't have to like them, agree with them, or even accept them. But, they are there.
