When reporters ask what Republicans would cut, GOP aides refer to three documents: The 2012 House GOP budget, 2011 testimony by Democrat Erskine Bowles, and the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act that would replace the automatic cuts to defense that are part of the "fiscal cliff" with cuts to food stamp and other mandatory programs.

I guess the thread's Subject question has been answered.

lol... really? Just that simple huh?
You have no more of a clue than anyone else does.
Not to mention the plan Boehner offered up claiming to be Bowles Bowles has distanced himself quickly from.

Let's see. The question was: "Where are the GOP's "fiscal cliff" spending cuts?"

The answer (from Aides): "The 2012 House GOP budget, 2011 testimony by Democrat Erskine Bowles, and the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act"

Not all that difficult, now was it? You even answered it yourself.

Which is NOT the proposal Boehner presented, Instead, it was his own modified from Bowels.

Regardless, it is still there. Why ask where the cuts are, if they have 3 documents of spending cuts?

Got a link to Bowles backing away from Boehner's statement? No mention of it in that link you posted.

From Bowles....

Erskine Bowles
While I'm flattered the Speaker would call something "the Bowles plan," the approach outlined in the letter Speaker Boehner sent to the President does not represent the Simpson-Bowles plan, nor is it the Bowles plan. In my testimony before the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, I simply took the mid-point of the public offers put forward during the negotiations to demonstrate where I thought a deal could be reached at that time.

The Joint Select Committee failed to reach a deal, and circumstances have changed since then. It is up to negotiators to figure out where the middle ground is today. Every offer put forward brings us closer to a deal, but to reach an agreement, it will be necessary for both sides to move beyond their opening positions and reach agreement on a comprehensive plan which avoids the fiscal cliff and puts the debt on a clear downward path relative to the economy.

Honestly, the man who gave the testimony himself states it isnt his plan that was offered and states "circumstances have changed".

How much clearer do you need it to be?

Already a law, already not enough.

Ryan’s idea is to eventually move Medicare toward private insurance companies by giving people a set amount to buy their own health insurance plans. The new system would be for people who are under age 55 now, and it would give them voucher-like credits to buy traditional fee-for-service Medicare or competing private insurance plans. (The credits are sometimes called "premium support.")

Thats not a plan... thats insane.

Now, where are the actual cuts?

Um, since you didn't provide a link at all, and only made a non-cited claim, it wasn't clear at all. You made a claim and posted a link that didn't include any part of your claim.

Wait, you are arguing that what is current law (sequestration) can't be included? Better tell Pelosi.

And, the cuts are there, whether you think they are insane or not. And, they are there, regardless of whether they can be attributed to Erskine Bowles or not. You don't have to like them, agree with them, or even accept them. But, they are there.

Sure am, tazzy. I'm thinking you've gotten into the ether tank...

What difference does it make if it's incorrectly assigned to Bowles? If I were to write out a grocery list and say it was yours, I would be wrong in assigning it to you (unless I was prescient while writing it), but it would still be there. If the R's are saying that Bowles' statements to Congress are the basis, regardless of what they are calling it, isn't it still there?

Allow me to try again.

Boehner said look to Bowles testimony.

Testimony Bowles gave.

The proposal Boehner gave was based upon that testimony.

The proposal, according to Bowles, is not what Bowles supported then.

In other words, the testimony is NOT what Boehner gave as a proposal.

But that is one of the things Boehner said to use as a source for the answers... the testimony.

Getting it yet?

Apparently, a letter was sent by Boehner to Obama that outlined an approach (which, I'm assuming had spending cuts in it) that was called "the Bowles plan." Regardless of what it was called, isn't it still outlined in the letter? Had Boehner called it "The Photo Montage of tazzygirl's Beautiful Ass Pics Plan," it would not be titled according to the information contained within, but it would still be there.

And that plan isnt where Boehner said to look.

So, no, we dont have the answers.

Apparently, Boehner sent the President a letter outlining an approach. Thus, it would be there.

Hold on a second. Post#3 says:

So, Bowles' testimony was in 2011, and serves as the basis for Boehner's approach. From what I read, I took that Bowles wasn't testifying on the Simpson-Bowles plan, but on a "midpoint" plan where he thought a deal could be reached. The way I read it, the testimony wasn't the Simpson-Bowles plan, either.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where are the GOP's "fiscal cliff" spending cuts? (12/17/2012 8:51:20 AM)

It isnt either plan. Yet that is where Boehner and his aides are telling people to look for the answers about where the GOP cuts are.

If there is a place that outlines spending cuts, then, regardless of what it's called, it is there. Nice how you've decided to concentrate on only one source of the 3 given.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where are the GOP's "fiscal cliff" spending cuts? (12/17/2012 9:20:03 AM)

I gave those shources at least a page back.

Those are the ONLY sources Boehner or his assistants have given as sources for the cuts.

And you said they were there....

The testimony is NOT what Boehner gave the President.

Have you yet to find this mysterious proposal?

I havent.

But I am supposed to go with the testimony to find them out?????

mnottertail -> RE: Where are the GOP's "fiscal cliff" spending cuts? (12/17/2012 9:37:01 AM)

What a fucking crock of horseshit from teabaggers.   They have fucked around now and in 15 days we hit the fiscal cliff, and they are playing coy with their proposals which they really don't have, what the fuck are they?  Spell them out.   restoring tax rates on households over a million?  deep entitlement cuts and beefing up this wholly insane military spending?

They have no choice but to raise the debt ceiling, so that is done regardless, or the government shuts down.  They are going to fuck around and stick us right into a depression.

They will be gone as a party (and their will be nationwide recalls on that day) and that's their end, unless these asshats get their inept shit together, but my bets is it gets to be a kick the can down the road and add interest to the debt, same as they always have done.
