Mike Huckabee Blames Connecticut Shooting on Separation of Church and State

quote:

We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we’ve systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage because we’ve made it a place where we don’t want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability?

Video from "Fox News"

This man, Mike Huckabee, is as mentally ill as the Connecticut shooter probably was.

Let me put this another way, IF God had not been present in that school today, the body count would have been a hell of a lot higher.

You are seriously compairing a guy with some really stupid ideas with someone who opened fire on a room full of 5 year olds? I guess you won't stop at anything to slam the right, will you? How fucking sad[8|]

I recall Jerry Farwell and Pat Robertson stating that 9/11 was caused by all the groups they hated the most (i.e. gays, liberals, Democrats, etc). And they were rightly bashed for speaking totaly crap during a horrible time in the nation's history. Seems Mr. Huckabee did not learn the lesson from history, and so, repeated it once more.

That is why I did not comment on the speaker.

I am a gun owner and democrat, and a Christian, I have said that before. In my opinion I have seen God work in our world since I could not find a reasonable explanation for what happened at the time, and I have never considered to look back on the incidents and try to figure it out in a less spiritual way.

Some on the right will take this incident as a sign that we are being punished for being a secular nation, I do not believe that.

But I see no reason to slam the right for statements for by some of their number. I have enough problems dealing with those of my own political views who are taking an extreme stand over what happened today, as if something radical and contrary to the constitution would solve the problem.

But I will say again, considering the number of rounds fired, the response time of the local police after the first 911 call, and all other aspects of this terrible tragedy, if god had not been present in that school today the body count would have been much higher.

From what I have read on the story from various sources, the police found two handguns and ammo on the body of the shooter.

So I am going to ask the nonbelievers on this forum a simple question.

If the shooter still had ammo in his possession, ready to use, who or what prompted his to take his life when he did? Why didnt he continue with his shooting spree?

There is a big difference between bashing someone for something they said and comparing it to the piece of slime who killed those kids. It reminds me of the dumbasses who compare being gay to being a pediphile. Both stem from ignorance of the situation. But go ahead and defend him, after all he is one of yours.

Someone exploiting a tragedy like this doesn`t deserve ANY kind of respect or dignity.

Somehow in your whines.....you imply that the right doesn`t deserve to be taken to task for what their leaders say/do.

Oh really?[8|]

Good luck with that.

It is precisely the continuous flood of disrespect and abuse used as it's main weapon by the American Right Wing that produces the mind set that depersonalizes all who are perceived as 'different' that is producing this generation of mass killers. There are other parallel influences, I don't see any as pervasive or well-funded.
When a group has no hope in a fight on ideas, ad hominem attacks become the main strategy. Not being able to out-debate current Liberal politics with logic and evidence is Really sad. The whole group would be merely pathetic is they weren't doing so much damage to the country and world in preventing actual responses to the manifold challenges of the 21st century, an unprecedentedly dangerous time for humanity.
People who are using hate and disrespect are living just what Buddha warned us against: "Holding on to anger is just like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."
We Should be debating about and experimenting with creative solutions to the novel and savagely threatening things about on the planet currently. All the effective ways to deal with the current changes require engaging constructively with each other and finding ways of cooperation that solve the most problems. But we get political Luddites trying to 'return' to an imaginary past that never existed.

Now we get new energy to the continuing insanity of trying to remake human nature with laws. Gun Control is hitting your target! Gun Control laws take up where the failures of Prohibition and the War on Drugs dropped us. America is flooded with drugs and is now the most imprisoned society the planet has ever seen. How's That working for ya?
And we want the police state necessary to actually control guns to 'protect' us? How about thinking the situation through? You stop Individuals with insane ideas who are trying to enact their delusions. Trying to remove all the tools the insane use soon leads us back to the Stone Age, and the crazies will keep on picking up rocks and clubs to do damage to the innocent. You can't control damaged people with threats and laws. You have some hope of reconstructing our society and communities so that the damaged people are recognized, engaged with and helped to get better or supervised effectively. It is a vain hope to completely counter all the ways minds run astray.

I'm waiting for the first teacher who smuggles a prohibited gun on campus and uses it to stop a mass killer, to be prosecuted for violating gun control laws meant to protect the children.

I disagree. Schools should give children some kind of spiritual understanding. I do not know how much it is a problem though to evaluate the Huckabee statement. The US is not a secular nation. The separation of church and state issue is sometimes interpreted in wrong way. The state would like church under its control, the first amendment prevents it from happening. Nothing prevents schools to deviate from naive-materialistic, technocratic world view.
