DETROIT -- The founder of Domino's Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the health care law.

Tom Monaghan, a devout Roman Catholic, says contraception isn't health care but a "gravely immoral" practice.

He filed a lawsuit Friday in federal court. It also lists as a plaintiff Domino's Farms, a Michigan office park complex that Monaghan owns.

Monaghan offers health insurance that excludes contraception and abortion for employees. The new federal law requires employers to offer insurance including contraception coverage or risk fines.

Monaghan says the law violates his rights, and is asking a judge to strike down the mandate. There are similar lawsuits pending nationwide.

A message left Saturday for Monaghan's attorney, Richard Thompson, was not immediately returned.

Is this round 2? or 104?

So they're pulling a Chick Fil A, are they? Too bad their food isn't half as good. They may not be able to withstand the same kind of PR nightmare and come out of it intact.

Ummmm... does Dominos currently provide health insurance to any of its employees? If so, does it exclude birth control? I doubt it. In other words, this "outrage" is just an excuse to be full of shit and oppose government-granted access to health care.

FR

The notion that an employer can exclude certain forms of health care on moral grounds seems to be a novel idea. I've done some searching and can find no evidence of any employer doing so before the passage of the ACA.

You are giving spelling criticism?

Ahem

Ken, I dont think anyone has before, but they are certainly trying now.

This is no different, in my opinion. They are just trying every court it seems in an attempt at finding one that may be sympathetic enough.

Isn't this the same lawsuit that Hobby Lobby filed and lost?

tazzygirl -> RE: Domino's sues feds. (12/15/2012 9:36:24 PM)

Pretty much. Seems they are all trying.

Moonhead -> RE: Domino's sues feds. (12/16/2012 3:36:58 AM)

Doesn't Domino's have a prior form for giving donations to various antichoice bodies?
This sounds more like a shitfit about birth control coming under health legislation than an anti Kenyan tantrum, at least...

DarkSteven -> RE: Domino's sues feds. (12/16/2012 3:42:09 AM)

They can forget it. If the courts ruled in their favor, then there would be nothing stopping a company's management from converting to being Christian Scientists and cancelling health care altogether.

ACA passed and was upheld by SCOTUS. I'm not sure why companies are fighting something upheld by SCOTUS.

Domino's AS A CORPORATION, doesn't have a religion.

End of discussion.

Religion is just being used as a smokescreen here for political opposition. Kind of makes one question the First Amendment. I have to confess that I stand with the Bill Mahers of the world in being generally anti-religion.

Then why are they refusing to given women the right to choose?
I don't remember ever seeing a secular excuse for that one.
