Times Square, NYC

quote:

On Sept. 10, some video makers followed Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who publicly set fire to the Koran in a mock trial (and who recently received a death threat in Egypt for his links to the infamous video “Innocence of Muslims”) to New York for the events surrounding the 10th anniversary of 9/11. They followed Jones to Times Square. All kinds of bystanders listened, silently at first, while he ranted against the Muslim faith.

Then, incredibly, the crowd responded not with taunts, jeers or indifference... but with the Beatles. The sunnier side of the term “mob mentality” spontaneously emerged, and people were once again overwhelmed by that well-worn cliché that sometimes fits just right: “Only in New York.”

These random New Yorkers are an inspiration.

Maybe someone should project photographs of women and gay people being tortured and murdered in accordance with Sharia Law on the walls of the New York mosque during Ramadan next year. That would be equally inspirational.

Or maybe someone should project photographs of non-Roman Catholic men and women being tortured and murdered in accordance with Roman Catholic Canon law during the Inquisition on the walls of New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral during Christmas this year and Easter next year.

Or maybe someone should project photographs of Black men and women being tortured and murdered in the U.S. by members of Southern Baptist Convention Churchs on the walls of Washington D.C.'s National Cathedral during Christmas this year and Easter next year.

That would be just as valid and equivilent.
