Does that kind of mental capacity come with negatives to even it out? ( I understand it's not always the case but it does tend to be the case) Yeah, it comes with having the heck beaten out of you almost daily in school. This can lead to all kinds of negative shiite, from depression, anger issues (justified), suicidal feelings, numbing the pain with drugs/alcohol/whatever, and knowing that adults will not do a thing to help...and will choose to blame the victim instead. My son wasn't "normal". He has autism and has moments of brilliance. He also had the H beaten out of him on playgrounds, on school busses, was frequently pushed down stair cases, rammed into table corners, stabbed with pencil leads, and suffered lots of verbal abuse. By third grade he was so...destroyed...and suicidal...that I had to take him out of public school to homeschool him. Being a smart nerd can be dangerous. If I had forced him to continue being abused for eight hours per day five days per week until he graduated... I don't think it's the high IQ that's the problem. It's how others treat you when you're different. Abuse can shape someone's character and even break it. (I used to have a very high IQ...and had to learn to become invisible just to survive school.)
