Researchers at Children's Hospital Boston analyzed reports from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey of U.S. emergency department visits from 1999 to 2007. In those eight years, they counted nearly 186,000 children, from newborns to 19-year-olds, who had been treated for firearm injuries. About 8,300 of those injuries proved fatal.

I wonder how many of the owners of those guns were prosecuted in any way?

Very few... which is part of the problem.

I can find any recent polling numbers so I am using the numbers from 2011.

81% of americans had, at the time of the poll, lost confidence in the government.

Mental illness is on the rise

Violent crime, all violent crime is on the rise.

Shootings with multiple victims is on the rise.

Unemployment dropping but still high.

16 Mass shootings this year alone, with the count since Columbine till 2011 standing at 28.

I admit I am a survivalist, and to be honest, this year has me thinking it is time to sell my main house and mover my family to my "bug out" location, fifty miles from the nearest town and 10 miles off the main road.

See, and one thing about that, cuz I used to work at one (damn near my whole family has) we used to lock nuts up, or keep them in a controlled environment, save them from themselves for the most part.   Then in the days of the much vaunted st wrinklemeat et al, they pretty much gutted the state hospital system, and lyingly saying it was a cost saving measure mainstreamed them, and this continues thru today, no real support for these folks, and ..........well...........

Yes it is. Maybe they should start enforcing the laws already on the books. That at least would be a start.

So as the hysteria mounts, there are several movies out that feature a lot of gun deaths... Bourne Legacy, Loopers, and so on.

The *only* one being pulled is the one that shows a black slave fighting for his family's freedom against the slavers.

Yeah, can't have children getting the wrong message now, can we.

And your suggestion to enforce gun locks would be?

How do we enforce that if they are screaming about the 4th Amendment?

How do we make sure these guns are kept away from children?

Im all for solutions here.

The ONLY one?

From your source....

The premiere isn't the only event to be canceled or postponed following Friday's shooting rampage in Connecticut, in which a gunman killed 27 people, including 20 children, before killing himself.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center postponed a screening of the Tom Cruise film "Jack Reacher" that was scheduled for Monday out of respect for the families of the Newtown victims, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount Pictures also postponed the film's Pittsburgh premiere, which had been planned for Saturday, a day after the shooting took place, THR added. The event will now take place Wednesday, but Paramount said in a statement that there will be no red carpet "during this time of mourning."

And....

This is not the first time a film studio has called off promotional events in the aftermath of a shooting. Warner Bros. canceled premieres of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Paris, Mexico City and Tokyo after a gunman opened fire in a movie theater showing the film in Aurora, Colo., in July.

If someone gets a hold of your gun and kills someone, they hold you responsible as well. Seems pretty simple to me. If someone is caught with a gun unsecured, they are punished. I have heard a lot of stories about kids getting their parents guns, but I don't remember anything being done to the parents. Not sure what the 4th amendment has to do with not enforcing laws that are already in existence.

I can work with that, unless that person can prove they did everything in their power to safe guard against theft.

Search and seizure. My point was, how do we ensure these things before the damage is done?
