I could probably add "Expert" status in biology. I taught it at 2 different universities.

I wonder if something about using university funds for giant rooster production got in the way of tenure...

ohhhh... You're an expert, huh? and, omg.. googleable!!! I, alas, am not googleable..

Are you sure? If you're on facebook, Google can find you. It's very easy to get on there.

According to my profile I'm not an expert in anything.
That said, they don't have a category for it, but I'm kind of an expert asshole

I had no idea what I selected. I haven't updated that part of my profile in ages. So I just checked his and mine and apparently we are not experts in anything -- publicly anyway.

Are people still falling for this? Seriously, after all these years?

The only place to claim to *be* an expert in anything on Collarme is in writing the descriptive part of one's profile.

Clicking on the boxes in the Interests section is no more claiming to be an expert than the man in the moon.

The cheapskate Collarme software offers you limited choices... total 'Beginner', 'Average', or if you want to indicate that you have even the faintest scintilla more interest or experience than the average bear.... 'Expert'.
Same as the pull down that will only let you select 4 options from all the possibilities of kink out there... if you are a sadist or a fetishist who isn't in the least bit interested in 'Domming' someone, your choices are to click 'Dom, Sub, Slave or Switch' - period.

But every so often someone makes a thread like this and everyone pretends to be shocked that people are claiming expertise in so many areas, or they can't believe the ratio of Doms to Subs, and so on.

Say, did you hear that everything we do is illegal in 29 states, just like sodomy? Or that Sydney Univeristy and law enforcement agencies are collecting your CM pictures for research without a warrant? But its OK, because you can take legal action against them... Everyone should put this on your profile.

I suppose I do have a bit of security in that the first reference that comes up for my name on Google is (or was when I last checked, anyway) an Irish bishop who shares my name. Benefit of having a common surname, I suppose.

I'm not surprised in the slightest or taken in by people who claim to be experts in everything. In fact, quite the opposite, I think it's a good indication of an idiot. But I like to phrase my questions in such a way that I can open the discussion without making it into a rant or outright making fun of people, because it's nicer, and because someone might surprise me and have a good, reasonable argument or explanation that changes my mind.

I'm not sure if all of your sarcastic patronising remarks were aimed at me, or the population at large, but if they are aimed at me, feel free to read my other posts, and hopefully that will show that I phrase things carefully, rather than just being naive.

The collar me software might only offer a few options as far as level of knowledge goes, but they also offer the option to leave that blank, so it's not like people are being 'forced' into classifying themselves as experts.

LadyPact- a lot of your areas of expertise (community, munches etc) overlap considerably so that wouldn't raise my eyebrow. You are also widely known by reputation, so again, your list wouldn't surprise me.

Regarding Sydney University. I have this on my profile and strongly encourage everyone to place it there *tongue in cheek*

Never. I never have looked at people's lists on here. I tend to not even notice them. I'd rather chat with someone and just get to know them as a person, not for their kinks. I can find out more about their everyday passions and interests from 5 minutes of chatting than from a list that tells me absolutely nothing.

I'm an expert in receiving blowjobs, but don't brag about it on my profile, it sort of should go without saying, but I say it all the time anyway....

FR

In 1989, Japanese director Akira Kurosawa won an Oscar for lifetime achievement.

In his speech he said (via an interpreter), "I am very deeply honored to receive such a wonderful prize, but I have to ask whether I really deserve it. I'm a little worried, because I don't feel that I understand cinema yet. I really don't feel that I have yet grasped the essence of cinema. Cinema is a marvelous thing, but to grasp its true essence is very, very difficult. But what I promise you is that from now on I will work as hard as I can at making movies and maybe by following this path I will achieve an understanding of the true essence of cinema and earn this award."

That touching humility comes to mind whenever I encounter self-appointed experts.

Et tu, Brute?

Both of my grown children have accused me of such in the last week. As well as my son's girlfriend and her current, best friend.

All things considered, I can live with that.
