Well, nothing beyond that damned nose itch after my hands are out of use to me.

My nose itches now just thinking about it.

I totally agree!! I life a mind/body/spirit approach to my life each and every day. I work-out daily, do pilates and yoga, but I was doing this even before the lifestyle. I have health issues and so taking care of my body is a must, and I have always taken care of myself for the man in my life so He has the best me He can have...now I have to step all this up another notch since returning to the lifestyle after 3 years. I too am not 20 anymore even if I look and feel it. I have messed my knee up by falling but it has improved greatly but I am a masochist and will work out even in pain!
We have to take care of ourselves because if not You are disrespecting your Master. They don't want us broken but I am learning being broken fro them is entirely different.[:D]

Personally I've kept my flexibility even though health wise it's gone down lol not a spring chicky anymore but I certainly can do a reasonable amount of stretching. In all matters, it doesn't just pertain to the lifestyle, health and fitness is the top thing you can do to help and towards the lifestyle, it's a selfless act because you are treating your body the way you treat your owners.

Towards bondage, flexibility and strength has been a major turn on for my Owner. He loves to see me progress and to train me on new positions that can be rather painful at first but ultimately is rather pleasurable.

I am still trying to wrap my head around being comfy when bound. I havent met one sadist that required I get in shape to be bound. Most of them enjoy my begging for some relief.
I am also curious what being physically adept at being bound has to do with submission or slavery?

littlewonder -> RE: Flexibility and fitness for submission (1/31/2013 9:53:03 AM)

Master likes me to be flexible because he likes to and wants to bind me in difficult ways...being able to pull my legs behind my head lol, hanging me for long periods of time without my arms going numb in 10 minutes.

If you're not flexible you can't exactly pull any of that off. Ever see the photos of contortionists? Yeah...think those in bondage.

Physical flexibility has very little to do with my submissiveness.
It's just part of the overall package. Years of yoga have actually
made me more flexible than when I was a teenager. To do much
in the way of complicated bondage you need to be strong and
relatively fit. Stretching, strength training, Pilates and yoga all help.

Some discomfort on my part seems to add to someone's pleasure.
Understatement.

until something breaks, they're screaming in bloody agony, you are forced to call 911, they figure out what you were doing, and you end up in jail.

this one thinks some sensibility in this is a must. Flexibility and good health can only help the situation.

I've often read in shibari texts, as well as experienced some firsthand, that flexibility plays an important role in bondage, especially with more intense ties. Subs/slaves, how have you prepared for bondage and submission in general. Has greater flexibility or fitness improved your capabilities as a sub? Have you hit any roadblocks that have prevented you from completing a tie you, or your Dom, was interested in?

My girl doesn't do anything special that I'm aware of to be flexible for me, but she's flexible enough for what I like.

I'm pretty sure the rest is sub-jective.

Nelee -> RE: Flexibility and fitness for submission (2/5/2013 7:52:30 PM)

I was born doubled jointed and retain most of that (is it doubled jointed, or simply being very flexible naturally?), so I don't have to prepare much of anything. For a while, I was training to do contortion, so yoga, pilates, and keeping lean is always good for extended positions.

I'm talking from a contortionist perspective and not from a shibari perspective, though, so I don't know how ropes would feel added to the mix. Not yet, anyway.

Question for the others in this thread, is there a certain fitness level required so suspension? Or is there something that you've noticed works better with suspension, such as being stronger, or being more flexible, etcetc. I understand that all aspects of health are important, but is there any part that you feel should be focused on?

littlewonder -> RE: Flexibility and fitness for submission (2/5/2013 8:57:00 PM)

It depends on the type of suspension. I've seen suspension where there's nothing really involved...a little bondage and just hanging a little off the floor. I've seen others though where they are flying through the air and doing all kinds of acrobatics while bound. Just like when you see it in circuses and carnivals, you need to be limber and flexible to have the stamina to hold the poses and the strength your muscles will need. So yeah, it just depends on what your idea of suspension is.
