How do you keep your nipples from scabbing over, & keep them soft after a lot of use?

I have never had scabby nipples from play, so I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for. I have had problems with a combination of breastfeeding and exercise though. Best advice is lots of contact with the air, no seams on your bra, lansinoh ointment when it gets really bad but NOT if it shows any sign of infection since lansinoh will keep it moist and make it worse. Infection is a risk if you are using toys on already broken skin, so common sense measures with cleaning toys and skin and keep the area clean and dry.

If they're dry and cracked though, you can't beat lansinoh.

In my experience the nipples heal very quickly, as long as you give them chance to do so and don't just keep re-opening wounds by playing before they have healed.

(I don't know what you mean by 'use', but I assume you know not to leave clamps and such on for long stretches, right?)

No i don't know how long is too long of a time to leave clamps on. I have broke the skin on them & they have scabbed over.

Well a lot is down to the type of clamps and how much pressure there is. But in short, nipple clamps cut off or restrict the blood supply, which in turn can cause tissue damage. The pain you feel when you take the clamps off is the blood returning to the area and sensation coming back. If you're using something that pinches very hard, like alligator clamps, you're probably best to restrict to 10-15 minutes at a time, a bit longer if the clamps are 'gentler'. If you're having stabbing pains or it's going blue, that's a bad sign. Someone with a lot of experience can probably push to wear them longer because they know their body and their equipment and can make a more educated assessment of what's safe or when things are going wrong. But if you're new to it, keep it to short periods.

Did you mean to break the skin or was it an accident? Maybe some different toys are in order. I've played pretty rough in that area but never broken skin with clamps.

Didn't mean to, it was just over a long time, didn't notice how long it was till after he did it. Then he did it again the next day, & wants to do so again soon.

Uh... so you do not know how long clamps can be left on. Does he? Or is this just the blind leading the blind waiting for you to have a serious medical issue? I honestly wish he had come here and posted a question about nipple clamp safety.

*nods* Mistakes happen. I'd be letting your body heal completely before there was any further nipple play myself... For me, that'd mean a minimum of a week after all visible signs were gone simply because it's hard to understand what sort of damage you may have done so I'd be inclined to be conservative. Since I happen to love Carol's very sensitive nipples the spectre of nerve damage would loom in my head.

Okay thank you.

<---- NOT an expert in nipple play nor a doctor.

But the big issue with restricting blood flow over long periods of time is either gangrene or nerve damage... both of which are nasty business. Then again, I can't see your nipples so maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill? Got any friends who are or were recently nursing mothers? Got any friends who are doctors or nurse practitioners?

Sounds ouchy. I'd seriously ask for a veto on nipple play until everything is totally healed. Broken skin there can easily get infected (especially since most women have it covered in close-fitting underwear and several layers of clothes, making it warm and moist) and infections in the skin can migrate into the milk ducts. Having experienced both recently, breast infection was more painful than childbirth. Hard to resist when you've been missing each other, but will prevent a much longer hiatus on play in the future.

No freinds as Doctors or nurses. Mom is a nurse, but will not go there, lol. I will ask him if we can not do any thing with the nipples for a week. He did say this morning that we need to leave them heal for a couple days. I'll ask for a week.

That's his JOB, as the dominant. Once the session was over, you had to know that the clamps has been on too long, yet you let him do it again. It was YOUR JOB, as the submissive, to let him know that shouldn't happen due to him being 'forgetful' the day before.

This is not responsible play. Keep this crap up and you'll end up in the hospital, yet another clueless couple giving BDSM a bad name. Is that what you want? You both need to learn how to do better, much better.

It's good you have the sense to come here and ask the question, I most strongly suggest you stick around and learn some stuff, and BTW ask your 'dom' to do so as well.

I pulled the one week figure out of my ass. My larger point was that were it me I'd be letting them heal well past when they looked healed simply because I don't know what may have happened subsurface. Then again, I'm always a long-term thinker rather than short-term and I'm pretty protective of Carol's nipples. I won't even have them pierced because of conflicting stories that sound "reasonably positive" but not enough for me to take the risk. So I might just be a scaredy-cat.

Better safe than sorry Jeff.

My (now ex) had hers done (against my advice I might add) while I was away for a bit in the US.
They seemed fine for the first 6 months.
Now, according to the kids, she can't wear any nipple piercings at all because she seems to break out in weeping sores within a day or so of putting them back in (rings and bars - she has both).

You carry on being a scaredy-cat.
I'm sure both you and Carol appreciate her undamaged nipples!

As for the OP, I would wait until they are fully healed, then add a week at least.

Hi...first time poster here. I had to respond to Freedomdwarf about the weeping sores. Chances are, those are hives. She is having an allergic reaction to nickel in the jewelry. I get the same reaction. The best solution is to use nickel free jewelry. My piercings (nipples, belly and earlobes) all have 14k gold jewelry. Implant grade stainless steel will works well, too. There are also some plastic options. Don't give up...pierced nipples are totally worth it if you take care of them.
Good luck.

Either I keep them moisturized with lotions or I just let them go and let them heal on their own. It's no different than when I was breast feeding; eventually they just toughen up.

ETA: As for piercing, I just had mine pierced last weekend and have not had any problems so far. They really didn't hurt when they were pierced and they don't really hurt now as they are healing. I was told to only clean them with soap and water and nothing else which is what I have been doing. I've had no scabbing, no puss, no infection, no nothing. They don't feel any different now than before I had them pierced.
