Sooo, Christmas was great. Awesome trip to mom's house. I get home on Christmas Eve, and a freakin blizzard hits!!! I have never seen this much snow except in Colorado ( I'm from Memphis keep in mind). So the power goes out 30 min after we start cooking Christmas dinner. Grrrr! So all that food wasted! We tried lasting two days, not gonna happen. So we got a hotel room. If camping is anything lie that, ten scratch that off my interests, lol.

My idea of camping; a 4 star hotel near the woods. I am sooo thankful Master feels the same way lol.

Best sleep of my life was during the winter and a half I slept in a tent in upstate New York. The other half winter my tent and I were at a yoga retreat center in Costa Rica, where there was no electricity or refrigeration. I had to leave a month early because it was too hot to sleep well [:D]

I'm a wimp compared to my mother, whose idea of camping is backpacking in the White Mountains and carrying her tent and all her gear in her back pack.

Sorry your Christmas dinner was ruined. Two days without power sucks, but with Sandy, the majority of my town was out for two weeks. Enjoy the hotel with housekeeping and room service. As for camping, it isn't really like that, since when you camp, you are prepared for the trip (typically). I grew up camping, and wish I was still able to do it.

Well, I don't camp, period. I'm with little wonder on the 4stars. :) And LL sorry to hear you went without power for that long. A few days is all I can handle. But now that I think about it, you might be right about camping. At least Hubby could build a fire and we could have cooked on it. But still couldn't shower when camping. That was what was killing me, no hot water! Oside, I saw the news where it said that. Grrrr!! That sucks. But I must admit, it is beautiful here.

The food that was wasted was the dressing, ham and Mac n cheese...the good stuff. :( But as of now, I have a nice igloo of food right out side in a cooler.

We were expecting an inch or so of snow, turning to rain. What we got was four inches of snow followed by ice. In order to clear the porch and the steps, shoveling was useless. It was all slow going with an ice chipper. Getting another 4 to 6 inches overnight and into the day tomorrow. I want another winter like last winter, the one without snow.

FIP we have that one in denver!! I was in shorts dec 23rd!! Did get snow late 24th so it was a white christmas...but, when I can see the green of the grass going into january I worry what forest fire season is going to be like :(

What's with all this camping bashing! It's great, but you need all the gear to make you comfortable otherwise you will have a lousy time. Thermarest prolite plus is the best sleeping mat I've found, Thermarest alpine blanket is the best blanket, comfy clothes, light backpack, good meals stay dry and you'll have a great time. Although the last girl I took for a bushwalk ran out screaming legs covered in leeches... But they don't like me for some reason. [:D] -Aries

I love camping but when I go camping i am always prepared. You weren't exactly prepared for this.
