Elon Musk has floated the idea that the planned mission to Mars be partially financed through selling stock in the primary mission and the proposed colonization of the red planet.

The colonization plan involves terraforming, when means getting greenhouse gases in the martian atmosphere to warm the planet and introducing plant life to create oxygen.

However, since Mars has no magnetosphere, how are they going to keep solar radiation and solar winds from blowing the atmosphere they are trying to make away?

And if this guy is talking about getting investors, why should NASA be involved at all?

Wasn't there some treaty or something that prevented claiming extraterrestrial real estate?

Because no private enterprise company has the capability to even put the tonnage a manned Mars mission would require into orbit, never mind en route to Mars.
(That said, neither does NASA, either.)

Yep. Mind you, there's also the SALT treaty putting a ban on antiballistic missile research, and that's being ignored as well.
