i have been into BDSM for a while, but i haven't been in forums or communities and i don't know some of the terms. What is vanilla? And why am i it?

In BDSM - 'vanilla' is a term for someone who doesn't practise wiitwd.  (What it is that we do).  Personally, I dislike the term and rarely use it.

vanilla is everything mainstream...  not just non-D/s, but not swingers, not poly, not... when not anything that your church wouldn't approve of.

At Baskin-Robins you can get many flavours of life, D/s is just one, vanilla is another.

I'm not sure how the word "vanilla" came into popular usage, but as dark stated, it's just a way of describing people who do not practice wiitwd.  Personally, I don't have any feelings about it either way.  To me, it's just a word...doesn't have any negative or positive connotations.
